802.11b is getting hotter every year and even though StarBucks has the service, it isn't free. But there are great news. Free HotSpots for everyone:

I live in new York and I have found the following:

http://www.nodedb.com/unitedstates/ny/newyork/?

Did you see that?

I have seen two great Free Access Points in NYC:

Bryant Park
http://www.bryantpark.org/html/home1.htm

and Madison Park
http://www.nodedb.com/unitedstates/ny/newyork/view.php?nodeid=107

If you are interested in becoming a free Access Point You can do it. Read this:

What do you think? Should we all unite and start making free Access Points all over?

I'm pretty sure most Colleges have WiFi on at least one place. My school, Brooklyn College, has a place called "Library Cafe", where we get WiFi access as far as 20 to 30 meters away from the WiFi source. I would say, check with your Computer Lab Admin.

It is amazing that there are so many places out there that are WiFi ready.

There are thousands of wifi hotspots (a hotspot is just a wifi access point, usually for connecting to the Internet) in New York City.Hotspots are found in restaurants, bars, stores, and even public parks. Some hotspots charge you to go online, but many are free. Most people know that you can go wifi at Starbucks. The JiWire HotSpot Directory can help you find other locations that offer high-speed wireless Internet access.
