I recently bought a NX70V and i obviously need a memory stick... i want some advice to what size i will need 128 or 256 for my needs.
this is what i plan to store on my clie:
1. 30-50 mp3s.
2. 1-5 short movies made with the clie movie player (not importing movies)
3. 10-20 photos (taken with the clie)
Do you guys think 128mb will be sufficient storage for my needs with some left over.. i dont want to be strapped for memory all the time... should i just go for a 256??
thanx
[edit] also is there any difference between the sony memory sticks and the knock-off brands like lexar and sandisk ???

get the 256. imho, there's really no difference in the MS brands. please do a search if you want more info, there's a lot on that topic here in cliesource.

if you got the 128, you figure you would want the 256 after a while
if you got the 256, you figure you would want the 512 after a while
and so on and so on...
and i like my lexar one
it is the clear purple one with the green light
very stylish

You can't hold 50 mp3s in a 128mb (if they're average full-length songs at 128k). You'll probably need 256 or more.

Greetings!
Buy the new Sandisk 2GB - that way you will be happy with your purchase for at least.... let's say.... a week.
If you buy anything else, and you will want to buy something bigger tomorrow! :D
Best wishes,

buy a compact flash 256 or 512 for the respective same prices and you can store music on there. then a 128mb MS would be sufficient for images and a few movies from the clie cam

I would definately go with the cf options. With 256Mb for $32, 512Mb going for $69 and 1GB for as low as $129 (solidstate), it's hard to shell out a bunch of extra for the big memory sticks. Dont forget that you will also want to save some stick space for backups. I am currently using a 64Mb stick, and a 1GB cf (microdrive). I put programs, backups, and documents on the memory stick, and leave the cf drive for mp3's and movies etc.
I would get the 128 stick, use it for backups and programs and recording movies, and use the leftover money to get a 256 or 512 meg cf. Then you could have tons of mp3's. :))

One thing to be aware of is you won't be able to use the CF card right away. You'll have to do some "tweaking" of things for it to work. There are threads that explain what to do. Go to the Compact Flash forum and read the "NEWBIES READ THIS..." thread. Very informative. CF cards are definitely cheaper than MS now.
EDIT:
Look under the MS slot. There should be a plastic piece covering the CF slot. Use a finger to pull it out. That's where it goes!
