They all look cool!

I'm curious to see what Bellagio Designs comes up with for the TH55 too.

When I checked the Covertec site yesterday, any mention of a case for the TH55 had been removed. I e-mailed them to question availability but, as I had e-mailed them earlier to inquire about pre-ordering and had not received a reply, I don't hold out much hope for an answer (after all, the supplier here is Mobile Planet). I'll post if I hear from them.

I remember a while back (before I planned to get a TH55) there was a thread about a clear plastic cover that opened to the side. I can't find any references to it anymore. Does anyone have a link to the manufacturer or to the thread I'm thinking of? Anybody own one and have a report? Thanks.

I don't believe that the TH55 case was ever listed on their US site. It is however still on their UK site. (http://www.covertec.com/catalog.php?m=SONY_TH55) It is listed to be released on the 15th of April.

Note that Xigma has a cheaper case, too (same features, just lower quality leather, I believe:)

And Extreme limit has a flip case coming soon:

I like how the camera and jog dial are unaffected by the flip. At first it seems dumb to have the hinge at the bottom, but with the way the TH buttons are laid out it makes perfect sense. Unlike a traditional PDA where you're using the 5-way nav button on the botton, the TH has it at the top.

Hi
I bought the Brando stuff. It is stable, offers a lot of pocktes for Memory Stick etc.
But you cannot use it when Synching. My Clie rests in the craddle
in the office and I remove when going to meetings.
To put the clie int he case and later remove it is cumbersome.
And to put it in and out certainly breaks the hands it is using n the long run.
So not so great. If you synch without craddle, just the cable, then it is fine.
But nothing compared to EB Cases for Tungsten

The Extreme Limit stuff is always expensive; but they do have amazingly innovative designs, for both PDAs and laptops. They're my favorite, but I don't keep my PDAs long enough to want to spend the dough on their cases! But with this flip case, I might make an exception...

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but it looks like this case should work quite well with cradles:

Does anyone know if they ship to the States?

Bummer about the Brando not being compatible with the cradle. I have a cradle at home for charging & syncing, cable at work. I wouldn't want to take it in & out of the Brando case daily just to charge or sync, but I DO like that the front cover stays on. I'm waiting to see what EB comes up with, but I suspect it will not allow for the cover.

It might work well with cradles, but there are no cutouts for the buttons/jogdial on the back. I don't see how you could even use it.

Have you (or anyone else here) tried the SONY Video Recorder (PEGA-VR100K / Price: $299.99) -- the one that takes Memory Sticks (& PRO)? Anyhow ... I ordered one ... but I'm just curious about this ... if anyone has used it ... do you have any reviews?

Thanks.

That looks terribly awkward. It attaches at the hinges. Since there are no cutouts for the scroll buttons, you would have to swing the top AND bottom out of the way. The weight of the case is supported at the hinges. Either the hinge mounts on the unit or the pivot on the case will give way sooner or later from this. Bad design.

Hi ALL,

Global Source is glad to announce a new Book Leather Case for TH55 coming soon (hopefully next week). The case is with BLACK stitching and insert card holder. The design is still the same as the one in Global Source (http://www.glblsrc.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=16198). I will post a picture here once the case is uploaded to our site.

Cheers!

I'd prefer a book style case, but am concerned that I won't be able to grip the TH firmly enough to press and scroll well.

It seems like the case would just rest in your hand and slide around when you pressed the buttons on the back.

Can someone with a bookstyle case comment on this? I'm hoping I'm wrong...

Rolando

rolando

I suppose the extreme limits book case has a space to slide your finger in. That might work well. The pictures look like two different cases, though. One opens left, the other opens right.

So does this PDAir case. http://www.miyavix.co.jp/Product/pdair/clieth55yk/

Unfortunately, I can't see where to buy either one, since both web sites are in Japanese. Anyone know English web sites for either of these two cases?

Rolando

GeoffreyDC

I'm going to address the questions about holding a book-style case and the Extreme Limit case.

I find that I can apply enough pressure to my Global Source (Brando) book-style case to securely hold and press the button on the back of the TH55.

The Extreme Limit case is just one book-style model. If has an interesting design that allows you to open it in like a book, but then you can swing the cover out of the way and to the right to hold it and access all the buttons with your fingers going through the cutouts. I e-mailed Extreme Limit about availability, but haven't heard back yet. They have a flip-style on their English site and the book-style on their Japanese site. Weird.

Rolando,

Brando (http://shop.brando.com.hk/pdairclieth55case.php) has the PDair book-style case.

Sharing your concern about book-style cases, I had ordered the PDair flip case from Brando. Have not received it yet though.

Thanks Keelinlee for starting this thread. This is the best collection of links for TH55 cases in the site. One stop shopping with helpful comments from members.
It sure beats launching a search engine on the open web.
I am still waiting for E&B to come out with their version of the case. I have had E&B cases on my last two PDA's, and I have been very happy with how well fitted the cases were.
The other decision I need to make is: Book or Flip type? Both my previous cases were Flip type. That might make the most sense.
Any opinions? (other than the already posted ones? Thanks for those too!).

keelinlee
04-21-2004, 01:02 AM
You're welcome, Rick. ;)

Sorry to tell that I'm not really prefer E&B as their leather case are too soft which looks lack of protection :( I used to have Vaja, Sena, Piel Frama, ... Up to date, I will give 5 thumps up to Piel Frama, excellent service, designs, cutting, ...

Mark29
04-21-2004, 04:57 AM
I guess how much protection you need depends on what you're doing with your PDA. I had a E&B case with my Handera 330 for 2 years, it was teriffic. It kept the unit protected, yet it was instantly accessible and I had full access to all the buttons. The front cover had a hard insert inside the leather, so it wasn't just the leather protecting the screen. I'm waiting to see what they come out with before I buy a permanent solution.

Right now, I prefer the Brando flip case, but it doesn't look like it can go in the sync cradle while in the case and that's a big disadvantage.

Mark

niftynifty1
04-21-2004, 08:23 AM
Why do all these cases have to have the stupid tab closure? E&B and Sena manage to make cases that have magnetic closure built in to the cover itself so you don't have to have an extra tab flapping around. Even the old E&B models with Velcro at the bottom edge were better than having a tab sticking out.

The pictures don't reveal much about the case. Will it work with the flip cover in place? Is there access to the rear buttons? Flip cover is not that important, but rear button access is pretty important to me.

is there any pouch designed specifically for TH-55. All the case have creative design.. but I don't really like most of the look.. i just need a pouch to protect it when I am not using it..

I had my hopes up until I saw how the rear navigation buttons are accessed. I don't understand why it's so hard to make a case with easy access to the rear buttons. I'll keep waiting for Sena or E&B.

My Covertec case arrived in the mail yesterday. I did a quick review in my photo blog http://faieonline.textamerica.com
Please pardon the quality of the pictures, because I took them using my SET610 mobilephone.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the case. Looks expensive, but the price is affordable. The leather quality is excellent too.

I don't know about Xigma. Tried to order from their very user-unfriendly site. I even e-mailed their customer support for help, but I have not received an answer from them till now.

Well I've narrowed my case search down to GlobalSource, Covertec, and the Brando cases.

One of the requirements I have is a belt clip so that I can take my unit everywhere I go easily. I've had two EB cases for my S300 and now I must decide on another maker it seems.

Covertec
This case looks like is has the 'cool factor' going for it. I'm interested in the "Wips" belt clip system. Does anyone have any experience with it? However, I'm not sure I like the fold-down to use the camera. Will they ship to the states?

GlobalSource
This too has a nice looking belt clip system. Has anyone tried it? I also like the fact that the case doesn't have to be opened or manipulated for camera use.

Brando
Well I wasn't impressed with the close up images nor the website. The case looked a little rushed. Any owners?

Thanks!
