Hm' I'm using Jackflash 3.0b14 for some while and stored many things into Flash, including some PDBs. I recognized that I could crash Mapopolis intentionally with trying a Command stroke which causes a Soft reset. But after this PSpeak.PDB (or similar) are not any longer recognized. I also experienced it with other PDBs - not only Mapopolis :(

I asked support of Jackflash and the only reply was, that I should run FlashEnable after reset. Yeah, with this it works, i.e. the PDBs from the ROM are now recognized.

Q: Am I the only one with this problem, or does anybody else have the same problem?

don't store pdbs in flash

Why not? They are used for read-only, so I don't see any kind of disadvantage to have a read-only DB in a read-only environment.

Not all read-only DBs work in Flash. Could not tell you why, but this is from my experience. Also, there exists a possibility that there may be another app or db in Flash unrelated to Mapopolis that can be causing a problem.

some databases need to be written too
yes, some databases are read only
but its best to keep them out..
the only database i put into flash is a mapopolis map
thats it

It's great to see all the activity on the board regarding JackFlash. It is probably the biggest MUST HAVE for the NX 73/80. Not taking advantage of it is giving up on 15.5 MB.

I would also recommend staying away from most DB being stored in Flash. I've had no problem with mapoplis maps but anything else is usually hit or miss. I am encountering a new problem, one I haven't seen anywhere here on the boards.

I have about 2MB free in Flash, however when I try to move large files (anything more than about 100K) lately I just get a 'Beginning Update' status screen and then it just sits there forever. I have to perform a soft reset to get out of it. Is there some limit on the usable Flash memory that prevents having less than 2MB free? anybody use a NX73V and get beyond that point? I'll probably wonder over to Brayder.com and check support for this issue. I only have 6MB left in RAM and I'd like to be able to take full advantage of my free Flash.

Probably I should make it little bit more specific:

- BEFORE Soft Reset, everything works fine, i.e. all Programms with PDBs in Flash find it and work with it.
- AFTER Soft Reset, the PDBs are not found.

I'm NOT talking about, crashing of the programming because of incompatibilty with ROM. I'm talking about that the PDB is not available resp. not found for the requested programm!!!

i have 24K of flash left
which version are you using?
i think b11 is the best version so far

used nearly all my flash, and only have 7.2mb of ram left...
i need more flash!

and about the pdbs
when you soft reset, the programs probably are looking for the pdb's in ram, but they are no longer there because they are in flash

With the NX73V, what version of JackFlash is required. How much memory can I save without deleting anything, and what CLIE-native apps can I safely get rid of?

JackFlash will do nothing for you as far as getting rid of Clie-native apps. That's not what it does. You might be thinking of JackSprat, which doesn't work on the NX74.

That said, you'll need version 3.0, which is still in beta (but very stable). I can't remember which sub-level NX73 support started, but the latest version that's out there (14) will work.

Ever since installing JackFlash on my NX60, Netfront does nothing but fail, and now ThoughtManager causes a Soft Reset if I try and "expand all items".

I tried removing all items from Flash in order to get NetFront to run well again, but it made no difference. I even 'unallocated (?)' Flash and it made no difference.

Is JackFlash known to cause such problems?
