I was chating with wasobi33 about lauching something that would allow people to upload and download videos for clies, but he never got back to me on it. Is this what I need to do. Should I setup some type of server. Any Ideas

Most email servers will not let you email huge files like those b/c they would cause major bottlenecks.

RichieRichDolla
04-14-2004, 03:16 PM
So How can i get them to other people.
Ncoday you are the greatest some of the shows I have I got on your site, to bad you had to close it down because of the legal stuff.

And it's good that email servers do not accept such attachments, cause email is terrible with attachments cause it "encodes" them (cause of some nasty ascii old days compatibility) and this leads to only 7 out of 8 bits get payload in it
=> your file gets 1.16 times larger when attached to an email during transportation.

Why don't you send them to usenet (I remember a newsgroup alt.palm something), that would be great,

I could host a file if there wouldn't be a billion people downloading it.

Hmm. You could always burn them to a CD and charge a fee to mail it to people if they wanted it. Just an Idea.

Winexprt where do you live in newyork. I live in manhattan if your close your could definately get the movies I could drop them of at the sony store. About mailing them, How much does it cost to mail a cd. I would just charge that price plus the price of the cd, I Have a huge collection of movies I would like to share but I cant figure out how to get them to people.

Hey. I'm in Manhattan all the time. I live in Westchester. Do you work in the Sony store on Madison? That's where I bought my NX80V BTW. Hmm that would be a good idea as it's probably the best way to get them to me...I'll throw ya a couppla bucks too. :D

Um..I think it's around a dollar (or less) to mail out CD's. If you figgure CD's bought in bulk are less than $0.35 each, you could charge only a few bucks and still make a nice profit on each one. Just an idea to throw atcha. PM me if you wanna meet up this weekend as I go into the city like every other day to see my GF.

Okay , but I dont work at the sony store just a geek always checking to see if they have something new. Can I burn mqv to regular cds I have them coming straight out of image converter, so you dont have to rename them unless you have a movie assigned to that number already.

Burned the cd for winexpert he is supposed to get his copy on saturday, he is meeting me at the sony store in Manhattan N.Y. Anybody else wants to met us let me know I will burn a cd for you to. But I still dont know how much I should charge If I start mailing out copies to people, plus I dont know how I would receive the money, I mean I dont want people to rip me off and I also dont want them to think I am going to rip them of either. Anyway I have more than just In living color videos, I also have the chappell show, friday, friday after next, American History X, Badboys 1 and 2. Scareface and many other movies and shows. P.S. If I do start mailing copies to people I well give 2 free cds of Mqv to anybody who can fiqure out what is it that I have my money laying on in my avatar. I will only charge around five or 10 dollars per cd.

If you are familiar with Usenet, upload them there. We set up a group several months ago: alt.binaries.warez.palm.movies

This is what we do - Set up a specific day on which you will upload the files. Let everyone know this day in advance so they can prepare to download. They grab the files. Now many people have copies and it will be up to them to fill requests as needed.

RichieRichDolla

I am looking at the site and I can only get to binaries there is no warez

DaMan

If you are using the Usenet server provided by Roadrunner, then it might not allow access to that group.

There is still another option: Select a different group (like alt.binaries.something) with a low number of posts. This will allow for longer retention on news servers and give people more time to download the files. Once the group is chosen, just let people know the day you will be posting and choose some cryptic name so as not to let the law catch on. For example, OutDeadBlack1.rar.

alt.binaries.cd is actually a fantastic group for this. Check to see if you can get it, but I'm almost positive most news servers do.

I commend you on your efforts. It takes some time to rip a DVD and upload it.

I dont now about this stuff(putting movies on internet to let people download it, you will have to walk me through the steps if you dont mined. I have no Idea of what to do. My service provider is roadrunner maybe that is why I cant get it

DaMan
04-16-2004, 12:19 PM
I would be more than happy to walk you through, but let's gauge the interest here first. Assuming you have roadrunner ADSL, your upload speed is ~350kbps max. It would take you almost a full day to upload 600+ megs at that speed.

Seeing as how not that many people have responded, it would be a lot of work for you to get this to two people. Here is the site of an excellent free newsreader with which you can post multi-part binaries (The standard method for posting movies): http://xnews.newsguy.com/

I though broadband was suppose to upload and download at the least 10 mb per second. It only takes me 1 or 2 minutes to download files 250 megabites or less. From what you are saying it will be easer for me to send people cds instead

Another option would be to use BitTorrent (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/) it means as people get parts files from one persons they them selves are then able to share the parts they have speading up the download.

(mods: if this is getting a bit iffy, please delete)

That is to complicated If might just give it to my friend and let him put it on his website. But he is also worried about his bandwith. I dont know I anybody has any other ideas it would be gladly appreciated.

The bandwidth would get hosed in a heartbeart; I know from experience.

Unless your friend has unlimited bandwidth, that big of a file would use up over 50GB+ in just a few days once posted, I guarantee it!

RichieRichDolla

I know. Do you have unlimited bandwidth. Your site was great to bad about what happened. Wish you still hosted movies and tv shows on the site.
