Well, it finally happened. My 128MB Sandisk MS I was using died on me. Has this ever happened to you? My UX simply won't/can't access or recognize it anymore. I get that little question mark icon over the MS icon. I'm not sure how old it is as I got it from a good friend 2 years ago. I think it might have been as much as a year old when I got it and I'm SURE he used it a lot. Is this about right for the lifespan of Memory Sticks?
:( :(

Have you tried reformatting it on your PC using an external memory card reader?
if not it may be worth the 15 bucks to pick one up and try, just may save you from having to buy a new stick.
i've heard of this happening before, something on the stick gets corupted and clie can't recognise it.
Good luck!!

it makes sense that it could wear out. Flash memory has a finite number of writes it can take.....

Good luck!! Yeah, at first my UX said it couldn't recognize the MS and gave me the option to reformat it but as I had a bunch of cool movie clips & previews on it I didn't want to do that & lose them. I might just use a PC to format it now as it may be the only way to recover use of the stick. :( Or...it just may have reached the end of its usable life.

Should be thousands, right?
I have several MS I've been using in my cameras and Clie without a single problem.

I don't know about the MS specifically, or most newer types of flash cards, I do know the limit is extremely high (like in the order of 50000 or higher, I am not sure with newer technology), and also thats complete writes, when take a picture you are not writting to the whole memory, just a part of it..

Yeah, the more I think about it it just might have a corrupt file on there.
Have you tried using disk tools to check and see if there's bad data on it?

Have you tried contacting tech support? How long a warrantee does Sandisk offer?
I ask because I just had one side of a 128Mx2 Lexar Memory Stick die on me, and they replaced it pretty much no questions asked. After I called them, it took them a couple of days for them to e-mail me an RMA number, but once I mailed the defective one off, they got a new one to me in less than a week. It just arrived; I'm loading it up as we speak. :) Lexar offers a five year warrantee, but they never asked me for a receipt or proof of purchase, so they would have replaced it no matter how I got it.
I've gone off on a tangent, I suppose because I'm a happy camper right at the moment, but I guess my point is it can't hurt to call them and see if they'll do anything for you. I hope Sandisk is as generous with their warrantee as Lexar. Good luck.

My guess is about 10K times. Specially for the good quality one.

Thank you! I never even considered this as an option...can't hurt to give 'em a call right? :D Hey, I may even get a brand new MS out of it.
