View Full Version : TJ37's TOOTHPICK stylus

I have read so many reviews which have criticized TJ37's stylus and often have referred to it as a toothpick. (being so skinny) I have a couple of questions for TJ37 owners:
1) Is the stylus really that uncomfortable to use?
2) Over time, does the stylus wear out in which it cannot stay open, but keeps collapsing every time you press on the TJ37 screen? This is a known problem with TJ35/TJ25, and I wonder if it still exists with TJ37.
I know, replacement styli exist, but it seems like double duty to have to carry one of those pen/stylus combinations and your PDA......your PDA should be able to carry its own stylus for true portability and on-the-go usage, IMO.
1) Is the stylus really that uncomfortable to use?
Not really, I find it quite comfortable, but many don't. Depends on how big your hands are and how you hold/use it.
2) Over time, does the stylus wear out in which it cannot stay open, but keeps collapsing every time you press on the TJ37 screen? This is a known problem with TJ35/TJ25, and I wonder if it still exists with TJ37.
I don't really extend it. When I do, it clicks into place fine.
I did find something I didn't like about it though. The over-usage of the stylus kind of wore out the "smoothness". When I extend the stylus, it doesn't come out smooth. It's like it needs more oil/WD-40 to make it smooth...

I use it only in emergencies. I have a global source case that has a "sleeve" for a more normal stylus, which is what I use the vast majority of the time.

Dude, I have friggin monster hands (big) and I have no problem with the stylus. It extends, clicks, you use it, and then shove it back in the hole in the clie.
If it gets sticky, hit it with some 3-in-1 oil or WD-40... but really, the stylus isn't a dealbreaker.

I really think that the stylus is just fine to use. The problem for TJ25 which I had before is that the stylus falls out of the handheld. I lost it the first week. I think sony have already corrected that problem for newer models though.
If you really don't like it, you should get a 3 or 4 in one pen/pencil/stylus/(red pen). I carry a pen with me anyways, so this is very comfortable. I think that some of them are even cheaper than the replacement stylus.

to answer your question
1) no i dont find the stylus unconfortable to use.
2) never had a problem with the stylus even over time. now i have a case which allows a standard solid sj-33 stylus to be used so the stock stylus is like a back up now.
i do recommed the 4 in 1 pen, they rule, they're cheap and they're easy to use.

I have a 25 which has the same stylus (I think) and have used it for 4 months w/ no problems. The stylus does not collapse on me and the fact that a small stylus allows a smaller form factor is a great benefit to me. I don't think you can really have "nice big meaty stylus" and "small, easy-to-carry-in-a-pocket PDA" in one package :D

You know, to save on weight (cuz the TJ37 is so heavy), i just leave the stylus at home and just pull out my c*ck when I need to write on the Clie. When I'm done, it fits in the same hole that the stylus was in. See! No problems!

I just saw on the PDair site that they sell a 3-in-1 stylus that fits the TJ series! That's cool, so I might get one. THe size of the stylus doesn't bother me at all. But, I had a pen-stylus for my S360 and have been waiting for one to come out for the TJ35. Due to the small form factor, I didn't know if it could be done...but apparently so!

Um. Yeah. OK. Paul, does your Mommy know you're surfing the web? You're supposed to get permission first. The web can be a dangerous place for pre-teens...

Palm Vx had it....small form factor, and huge stylus.....mind you it had significantly less features than the TJ series.....
