Checkout http://www.audible.com download the player and then install the palm device. It says it for the Tungston but guess what it works on the Clie!! I luv it:)

Sorry its not completely compatible everything seems to work perfect until you try to play the file. then it locks up. Sorry for the bad info.

Funny how you could say that you 'luv it' without playing a single file.

That is, after all, the most important part!

Audible is for listening to the electronic version of books.

Somewhere on Audible's site does tell you that it's not Clie compatible.

I was whatching the file transfer to my memory stick when I posted. That is further than I have ever got before. Forgive me I thought there was hope. Now I am using the player to burn a disc and then I will rip it to mp3. then transfer to my clie to listen to a good book.

I don't want to cross-post, so do a search for 'Support Audible.com' if you'd like audible.com content on your NX. I started the thread to address this glaring shortcoming. It's embarrassing that the Tungsten can do audible.com content and the NX can't!!!!

terry@sourceori,

You can skip the CD burning step. Get goldwave, open the audible file, then you can convert directly to MP3 and even have it find gaps to split it into 'chapters' or smaller files so you don't have to carry the entire file on your NX. This does work.

I know you can convert audible files to mp3 and install them on a memory stick. I don't believe the build in MP3 player allows you to stop playing a file and come back to it hours later and restart where you left off. Anyone have any ideas about some software that would be good for playing back long audio books?

ive asked the same question before (in a previous audible.com thread), but since i didnt get any reply then; i must apologize for asking again...

how do you get to use goldwave to convert to mp3? as in what audible format would work?

i mean, ive tried it, and all i get is a hissing sound...

thanks...

Open goldwave, then open an audible.aa file (c:/program files/audible/programs/downloads). Goldwave will deflash it to your hard disk. Then you can 'save as..' an MP3 and select the settings you desire.

I've never had any problem playing back files I've converted to MP3. I download all my audible content in the "3" setting.

To answer jscherber: You can stop the player, do other things and later go back into the player and resume playing your recording as long as you don't take the MS out. Here is where the problem lies.

If I take my MS with the audio book out, put in another MS then later put the audio book MS back, the mp3 player forgets what track it was playng. Here is how I handle this problem.

1) prior to taking out the MS tap the musical note icon at the upper right corner of thje screen.
2)Uncheck any track that you have listened to
3)Tap OK
4)Remove your MS

When you put the MS back in it will remember where you left off.

When I open an Audible file in GoldWave it "deflashes to disk" up to 99% and then hangs the program. I can't get any further than that. I've tried files in 1,2,3, and 4 format--same result. Any suggestions? I can successfully open regular MP3 files.

Thanks for any suggestions

How much memory does your machine have, how fast is the processor?

I have a 500 MHZ P3 with 348 meg of ram and plenty of HD space.

Don't know what the problem is.

You may want to close all other programs/services running in the background.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest either re-installing goldwave or contacting customer support.

I've never had a problem using Goldwave either.

Thanks for the advice. I got it working on another computer, so at least I can tell it works. I'll look into the computer that's not working. I've had to "chop up" a large Audible file into three files in order to listen to one third at a time on a 128 MS.

When I said chop up, I meant that I cut and pasted the file into three separate files that would fit on 128 mb MS, one at a time. What I would like to figure out is how to create "tracks" within the file, so I could return to my place on the Clie. I don't think there's a way to bookmark your place, like on an Audible device and the only other way would be to "chop" up the files into smaller files for navigational purposes.

Lot of work. If Sony and Audible people are listening, please think about supporting Clie---it can't be that much different from the Tungsten format.

When it gets to 99%, hit the "back" button on the Audible window. There is apparently a difference in the amount of "file" advertised by the .aa file and when Goldwave actually discovers. By doing this you are padding out the end of the file to 100%
