I just found this the other day, still in beta though, some seemed to have success with it. I use WiFi LAN for my self.

Have fun !

Did anyone actually get this to work? My Windows XP machine just resets when I try to connect.

I was able to get http://www.synclive.com/ppp/ to work in an office (LAN) environment but not over a dialup connection.

Once I installed it and created a new ‘cradle’ network connection using the same username and password I use to log on to my PC I was able to surf the web using netfront and perform a pseudo wireless update of weather and exchange rates in WorldMate 9.1.

Haven’t gotten it working in ClieMail, but I can’t get that thing to work at all on my NX yet

I was having problems with this trying to get it to work, connected once, but then I kept getting an error message. I uninstalled, then tried to reinstall, but now there is a file missing on my PC that is needed to install the PalmPPP driver. Hopefully the finished version will work.

For the unregistered guest, what did you use for IP/DNS info ... Despite setting it to both automatic as well as giving it specific info, I cannot connect ...

Keep getting DNS errors ....

i have manage to get it to work with my nx70, however, i gotta setup a proxy server, such as wingate, and the palm browser must support proxy in order to be able to surf. hope this helps.

Very good, until recently it wasn't even doable.

i have sucessfully used mochappp over ir. You also need ircom2k to get 2k to let ir enable serial port. I could do everything I do on my wifi.

Not to be rude but what is the point in surfing through the cradle, Just because you can philosiphy. I'm just confused as to why so many would waste so much time for something so useless.

Well I mainly wanted to see how palm internet works. I tried on a Windows 2000 machine and it worked fine.

I'll be doing it to see if its worth getting a wifi card for my purposes...

And To reiterate It is just a question not dising any one at all I have the wifi card and a BT MS because I do not like being chained to my desk but if you do get surfing through the cradle to work in my opinion you are completley defeating the purpose of having a PDA in the first place

Well, maybe they have a long USB cable:D...

You can get MochaPPP from
http://www.mochasoft.dk/palm.html

You can get IRCOM2K from
http://www.ircomm2k.de/

Using it over IR is the same as serial. Haven't tried USB yet. I'm not fond of the cable myself either. I can sit comfortable at my desk though with IR.

Why would I do this? First I don't have a WiFi hotspot at my office yet but I do have an IR port. We're not supposed to install chat software on our machines. So I have my aol, icq, and irc on my NX70. I also use yanoff but do not have the conduit on my desktop. Even if I did the server i connect to which is my ISP doesn't allow connections outside it's domain. The proxy I run on my home machine requires that I connect PPP to it. There also are no smtp servers I can relay from at my office. So again I use my own smtp server to send mail from my palm. This too requires me to have a PPP connection. Just syncing up will not cut it for any of those applications. I also like to sync with my home machine while at the office just cause I can :)

Oh by the way people had PDAs before WiFi so doing things through cable or IR doesn't defeat the purpose of having a PDA. PDA weren't desigend originally with WiFi in mind anyway but "download and go".

no offense...but don't reiterate it again...we know. It's not like we're only going to use the PDA in the cradle attached to the computer...it's just a novelty thing for me, and I'd like to be able to have an extra IE window if something locks up...I'd also like to use aim on there...just cause it's cool. So until I get a Wi-fi card AND a wi-fi access point, which I can't afford right now, I would like to use this....if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

For all who got this to work... What connection settings did you have on the Palm device?

Another use for "surfing" through the cradle, is during "web-page-for-handheld-development" so you can see the results of your coding on the target device.

In the Prefs app/Network tab, I set Service to Windows RAS, Username and password specified in the windows config... I get the Connecting stage and then to the Initializing stage... but then I get an error PPP timeout (0X1231)

I already created the connection with the Palm RAS driver and I get a system sound in Win XP SP1 when click the Connect button in the palm network prefs... but then it dies

anyone has had this sort of problem ? or how do i set up both win xp and my nx to work well with the program...

thanx,

Carlos

I am on a pc (XP pro) connected to a DSL modem via a cat5 network cable and I cannot get it to work at all. I'd use dialup but i canceled my account Any ideas would be most helpful. By the way I use an SL10, I wonder if it is even supported by this software.

Not that this helps anyone here, but today when I restarted my computer I got a reminder message to register the app, and now I finally was able to get this app to work. I have been trying for weeks now, and today it just all of a sudden did. I don't know what I did, but don't give up, there is hope!

Did you register the app before or after it worked, that's if you registered at all?

I was just curious

No, I haven't registered it. I just had never been given a reminder screen when booting up my PC.

Now I'm getting the problem of the apps frezzing. I had both PocketLink and WebPro working, but now they just freeze up after they connect. O well, I got to get to bed. Maybe a task for tomorrow.:)

Right, I know the feeling :)!
