I just received an e-mail (since I was beta testing) for visual key, and it finally has a 1.0 public release.
Has anyone tried it out yet? I have a Clie nr70v, and as far as I could tell, all the bugs in the beta versions were never worked out properly, and it was a huge pain in the *** to restore from backup every time. I'm a little bit worried about trying the final release.

In all fairness, it's a very neat concept. It basically allows you to lock your handheld, and the method of unlocking it is by tapping certain points on a picture in a certain sequence.
I just got my e-mail too and share the exact same concerns as in the forum I have questions that were left unanswered.

Well tried installing it, and on the first soft reset, the same old problems came up again. Screwed up dialog box.
Booting in a "Safe Mode" yields a low-res screen with scroll bars, rendering my pattern useless.
Good thing I expected this again, and just used the four corners of the 320x320 screen.
I suppose it may work with low-res pictures. When I'm brave enough, I'll try it again.

I'm also a beta tester and haven't installed betas after the 1st two becasue of the need to do hard resets as the only way beack into my Clie. Haven't followed the thread on the developer's website for awhile because I was waiting for the first official release. Guess I'm going to continue to wait for a few more versions to hit the streets. The concept is a great idea but it sounds like the problems still need to be worked out.

Cool! I've been looking for an app like this. I tried Gridlock but I couldn't get it to work on my NX70. I just downloaded Visual Key and have been playing with it. It works great when I turn on fast login and fullscreen. Also I used visMill to insert a custom photo. My Clie is now secure, I can still access it quickly, and I have a cool startup photo. Thanks! =)

Hello,
There are still one or two minor problems that are not solved, yet. But we are working on it.
Problem 1: Some users report that the screen is just white and no picture is visible. We don't know what causes this problem, since it never appeared on our devices. A workaround for this problem is to press the PageUp- or PageDown-Button or to use the jog-dial. The screen is redrawn, then.
Problem 2: Sometimes the screen is only 160x160 and not 320x320: This is because the Sony-High-Resolution-Libraray could not be loaded, because there is not enough memory. This is no bug of visual Key.
Anyway: Even in 160x160 mode you should be able to log in: visual Key detects the 160x160-Resolution and recalculates the correct spots to click.
To everyone who had hard problems during the beta test: We appologize for any problem we have caused, but beta software and especially a beta security software will most likely cause problems, because of its beta status.
We have not received any reports about hard resets for 3 or 4 months.
Best regards,

Again? I remember this issue very well and learned the same lesson. Kind of defeats the purpose as I know anyone with half a brain would use the upper left corner for tapping.:(

Actually I pointed people to OpenLogoHack which is an example of handling these larger libraries. Was this explored fully?

I checked their web site and I couldn't find any info on how Visisual Key locked the palm:
- Can it be defeated by hotsync?
- Can it be defeated by putting Palm into debugging mode?
- How about pageup+reset?
that kind of things...
Thanks for any info.
