Hi guys,

I just bought my TH55 last night at local Fry's store (in CA).
The unit looked brand new. And there was no sticker indicated that it has been returned. (Fry's Electronic usually put a sticker on the box of an open-item to indicated that it's been returned by another customer.)

After I got home, I carefully peal off the Sony Seal sticker from the corner of the box.... then I discovered that.... there's another identical Sony Seal sticker underneath it!!
Except this one has clearly been cut in half using a sharp knife.

After carefully exam the texture of the sticker, I discovered that both stickers are made with the same material. The only difference was that the sticker on top had six lines of "SONY" printed on it while the one at the bottom only had five lines.

Have any of you guys ever encounter this kind of situation before?? Would you check to see whether your sticker has 6 lines of "SONY" printed on it or 5.... Those who found 6, please look if your have another sticker underneath it.

It really made me thinking.... was it possible that the local Fry's Electronic store put the sticker on to pretend that it was a brand new unit, or Sony's own Quality control randomly pick one and open it to check?

What do you guys think?

I had this happen recently with my Sony DSC-T1 digital camera, but everything looked fresh in the box and the items didn't have any fingerprints on them. In any case, I took it back to Best Buy, and the CS person said that sometimes Sony opens boxes up for inspections and reseals them. He did offer to take 10% off though, and I was a happy camper. The camera works great BTW.

It could be that they were recalled while still in production, perhaps to add a piece of advertising, or a correction page or something like that.

The two different seal designs could be an internal thing that Sony production folks would recognize as being units that had been "taken care of" and good to ship.

Just a guess, but it seems plausible.

Either what strider_mt2k said, or it was a package that was pulled off the assembly line for a quality control check, to see if every thing was getting put in the packages, etc.

It could be a showcase unit. Sometimes these dealers like to open it and display it in the showcase. But it is still a good unit.

It's great, forget the camera in the TH55. I can carry it everywhere and have captured many shots at times where I would usually say, "I wish I had a camera with me." The only bad thing is that 512MB Sony Duo sticks are hard to come by, so I'm still limping along on the crummy included 32MB card.

footy,
You can buy the 256MB Duo cards at CompUSA now for just over $100.
If you want a 512MB (which is what I bought), you can get them from several mail order places for $190-$250, depending on the brand. I bought mine from J&R Computer World in New York, ordered it Fedex and had it the next day. The T1 is a whole new machine if you have a large memory stick in it - the MPEG Movie "HQ" mode is unbelievable - it's like having a camcorder (although only 6 minutes :( ) in your pocket!

I agree with you - this camera lets you take photos you KNOW you would miss with a normal film or digital camera! It is so lightweight and convenient - you can keep it in a shirt pocket and it's there and ready to take photos instantly! :D

Best wishes,
Bawko
