Since I upgraded from an NR model Clie to the NZ, I am adjusting to the new features on the NZ90 as well as the Palm OS 5.0 Consequently, the NZ90's capability to run Flash programs was a pleasant surprise. There are a number of websites with free flash programs (.swf files) available for download, but most seem to indicate the files only will run on Pocket PCs. Ideally, Flash programs should run on any platform, which really increases the number of programs available for many handhelds.

(Be sure you have sufficient memory for these to run and, yes, they will run from the memory stick)

A few links to begin downloads:

I downloaded 3 programs that work. To install, you export the *.swf file to your clie (which should be set to import). The programs run from the flash player already installed on the NZ90. I downloaded memorymaster, zylo, and symbologic -- all three games. There are productivity apps in Flash too, but I have not tested those yet. Most *.swf files seem pretty small, but if you happen to download one that is 1 MB or larger, make sure you have enough memory (not only to store it) to run it. One problem with the NZ90 is memory. The pre-installed apps use too much of it, and once the device informs you that you do not have sufficient memory remaining, it's too late.

I'm using the HP Calculator on the NZ90 - it works beautifully, was a snap to install, and the graphics are awesome.

haven't figured out how to "import" to the clie. Can someone help?

Here is one way to import flash programs:

With the clie on its cradle and turned on, tap the "MS IMPORT" Icon (do not hot sync). In a couple of seconds, the message on the clie will read "connected." Now, anything you export will automatically download onto the clie on your memory stick. But, before that happens, you need to double click the "MS Export" Icon on your laptop/PC...this program should have been installed when you installed the Palm OS and whatever else you installed during your first set up (if you cannot find the icon, you can reinstall it from your clie CD-ROM). The export program loads and from their you simply click add and select the .swf files you've downloaded (and UNZIPPED). That's it.

On your clie, the programs are located by tapping the flash icon. Have fun!

The website below has 5 fun games that use small *.swf files so there should be no memory issues on your clie. Scroll down to the flash files section, and remember to ignore the fact that some folks seem to think flash files only run on Pocket PCs (Flash runs on top of various platforms, that's why the files are cool and convenient for developers). This site also has the flash player, if you did not install it as part of Palm OS 5.0

Download:

1. Flash: Black Jack 119 kb Black Jack game programed in Flash
2. Flash: Pocket Hockey 79 kb Air Hockey like game programed in Flash Beware, you play against the computer and it appears impossible to win.
3. Flash: Zing Memory Master 30 kb You'll recognize this game as the Simon Says game. Four colored circles flash in a sequence you must repeat. This one will kill some time.
4. Flash: Zing Marble Solitaire 36 kb Use one marble on the board to hop over another, eliminating it.
5. Flash: Zing Symbologic 32 kb You've got just 8 chances to figure out the sequence of 4 shapes (This is my favorite flash game so far!)

Enjoy!

If you noticed one flash file I didn't mention in my previous post on that website called osamabama ? or something like that, the answer is yes it runs on the clie and friends might get a laugh seeing it on your clie. You'll have to right-click the link to capture the download.

I believe the NZ runs flash player 5, so in theory any "swf" file that was exported from Flash to swf version 5 or below will run on our NZ's. the statement that they only work on PPC is totally wrong! swf's will run on Mac's, PC's, flash enabled handhelds,etc..
it's like saying a "jpg" can only be viewed on Internet Explorer...

anyway my .02!

"This site also has the flash player, if you did not install it as part of Palm OS 5.0 "

I downloaded the flash player from this site to install on an SJ33, but it wouldn't install. Any suggestions? I want to get flash player for my son's SJ33.

Thanks

The Clie SJ33 runs the Palm OS 4.1. As far as I know, you need OS 5.0 to run Flash 5. Sorry.

Thanks, Likestech. Another beef with Sony! Why do they put an older version of Palm OS in a newly released Clie? I was hesitant to even buy the 33 for that reason, but my son liked its size better than the t665c or the NX series.

The SJ33 has the newest version of the Palm OS that is available for the dragonball line of processors. If you wanted OS5, you would have had to go with an ARM based processor (NX/NZ/TG or even the Tungsten|T). Having said that, what capability of OS5 do you think is missing in the SJ33? I would challenge many of the forum members to list the differences (besides CPU support - thats a given).
