Sony only has 2 units in the top ten, according to this list. Plus this is only for Oct-Dec? What about the other nine months?

I really like my SJ22. I don't know for sure, but maybe they sold so many in November because of a great sale.
I bought mine for $54.99 from circuit city on sale after a $50.00 instant rebate from Offoce Depot that Circuit City matched and paid their 5% off price gauranntee, and another mail in rebate of $30.00.
I jumped at this after Thanksgiving sale.

most doesn't mean best, and it doesn't count online sales, it'd be nice to see what the full stats showed.

It's (SJ-22) been listed as no 2 on CNet's weekly newsletter "Handheld Dispatch" for most of the past 3-6 months. Just showed that most people are very happy with a basic model that's elegant, with wonderful form factor, and get the job done.
If I were Sony, I would have started cracking my brain 6 MONTHS BACK trying to find out what make SJ-22 popular, and prepared a equivalent or better OS 6 model (not OS 5, which really is nothing more than a over-hyped Dragonball emulator running on ARM processor).
And please, none of the UX-like freaks -

I agree, I think Sony is really missing a big market segment, the budget buyers, which PalmOne is doing a really good job of doing (the low end Zire)....

(IMHO, Sony should've dropped the SJ-33 to $99 instead of the SJ-22 - then they'd really have a Zire killer - and a "Crappy-Linux-based-Palm-V-with-MP3" killer (anyone remember that device?). At least it is beating the Zire 21- it's a nice unit, but the SJ-22 has more desirable features for a consumer ...)

I'm extremely happy with my SJ-22. I'm glad I switched up from the SJ-20 within a week when the SJ-22 came on sale. I'm also VERY happy that I got it before Sony started making models without a jog-dial (horrible mistake). I mean who wants to scroll everything with a multifunction thing at the bottom center of the unit?

I bought my SJ-22 to replace my dead T-615. I like it, although I really miss the IR remote and sound quality of the T615.
(Itried the TJ-25 but just hated the indented round buttons, which were nearly impossible to select in the dark, so I exchanged it for the SJ-22.)

The SJ22 is one of the last no-nonsense PDAs, along with the TG50. I love my SJ33 because of the MP3, but I would have no problem using my wife's SJ22. Besides, you can still add a camera, MP3, game controller, etc. and have a versatile unit.
The biggest reason I stick with the SJ-series is the versatility. You can add the accessories you want, and you can remove the camera, keyboard, etc. when you need to. Sony's gotten away from that, and it's alienated a lot of potential buyers.

SJ22 is popular because it is a nice color PDA which is cheap, especially with all the sales. Many starters and students buy it. I think that palm one devices are more popular than sony because they are usually cheaper. But they are worse quality. I trust only sony in palm OS devices.

I'm glad I jumped back on the PDA bandwagon when I did. I purchased my SJ22 in December during a "holiday sale" at Circuit City for $119. They stopped carrying it a month or so later and now the cheapest PDA they offer there is no less than $199.
Personally, I'm very content with it. kjbad hit the nail on the head; versatility is a key buying factor for me. I've already purchased the SA10 audio adaptor and plan on purchasing the keyboard in the near future as I will be writing more articles on the go and a keyboard is a must-have. The camera would be a nice addition and the price for the refurbed model being offered on Sony's site isn't too bad (compared to retail prices). I've only begun to scratch the surface in productivity with my Clie, thumbs-up Sony

Hey all!
It's great to find others who love the SJ22 as much as I do, sometimes I get depressed and feel outdated when I read about everyone with their UX50's and TH-55's. But I love the functionality, compact size, heft, and just about everything else about the SJ22!! I have to echo some other thoughts, I wish it had OS5, or Sony had made the VZ processors and the ARM processors cross-compatible. Also wish it had a built-in MP3 player; I have a SA10 adapter, and like it, but it'd be nice to be able to plug headphones directly into the PDA.
But all in all, I love my SJ22! :-)

The jog dial on the side is the thing I like best about my SJ-22. It's especially handy for reading e-books. The lack of one on the newer clie models is one of the biggest things that scares me about upgrading to a new one.
