Sorry if this is already general knowledge but I learned that Project Gutenburg has numerous free ebooks available in mp3 format. I've tried one briefly on my sj-33 using ajvmp3 to see if it would work and it does, can't vouch for the quality as I havn't actually listened to one yet but its worth a look see. Here is the link:

Just listened to a couple of them of chapter ones. Quailty is fine, and a fair range to pick from. But they are using (at least for those two) computer generated voices ): I dislike that monotoned artifical sound. The index file said some real voices but I couldnt listen long enough to hear one.

Lol...is the quality that bad? The record (WTF is that?) must have gotten scratched or the cassette tape is going bad.
i use this program to convert text to mp3s
http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/index.html they sound like a computer unless you get the addon (att natural voices). a sample mp3 of the 'natural' sounding voices is here http://wcarchive.cdrom.com/pub/bws/bws_44/Crystal16mp3.mp3 and an interactive demo can be found here http://www.nextup.com/nvdemo.html
