I'm only a high school student and I don't know if the $100~ price justifies purchasing the NX80 over the 70. What capabilities would i be missing out if i opt for the 70 instead of the 80? Thanks.

For one, much better camera

For two, builtin CF storage support.

Yea but I can always hack that CF slot can't I?
I have a DSC-V1 digital camera so I don't think i'll be using the built in camera of the clie much.

You sure can - I use a CF card on my NX60 all the time. If you have a nice camera, and are happy with the CF situation, it sounds like you've made your decision!

hehe cool. Thanks. What's the diff between NX60 and 70 anyway?

The NX70 adds a camera. Given that I also have a decent digital of my own, I felt it was an unneccesary added expense.

nx80 has more ram (with jackflash, nearly 32mb)
nx80 has brighter and more vivid screen than the nx70
nx80 has built in decuma handwriting recognition (nx70 can do it with some hacking, and dont post anything about that, or we get in big do do)
nx80 has backlit keyboard
nx80 has built in cf support (don't need to hack)
nx80 has retractable CF slot
nx80 has native ms PRO support (can patch nx70, but it isn't as fast)
nx80 has a flashlight :D
nx80 has better battery life
nx80 has better internet capabilities
nx80 has a toothpick for a stylus :(

the nx80 is also slightly smaller, and has a pxa263 vs the nx70's pxa250 processor. (faster memory and system bus)

I "upgraded" from an NX70V to NX80V about three weeks ago. Except for the lousy stylus, I couldn't be happier.

I made the same move and bought Jackflash. I love all the extra available RAM and speed.

I think i'll just jump for the NX80. I see it at newegg.com for 335 USD.

i didnt know that the NX70's and the NX80's processor was different...

maybe that would explain the small gain in speed in most reports that ive seen (NX70 vs NX80)

yes... the NX80V has a brighter and more vivid screen... however, on the downside... :(

for the heavy graffiti user (using the NX in turn style - hidden keyboard)

... it is ALSO less sturdy/durable...

with no difference in the pressure that i apply when using graffiti - ive already sent my NX80V several times to have the screen exchanged (have a 3-year warranty)...

ps: the NX70V has a harder screen like the original palms (or say the TJ-series clies)

maybe you got a defective unit =p

i've played with the nx80, nz90 and nx70
i would agree the nx70 has a better finish, and feels a bit more sturdy..
but the nx80 has somewhat better technology

probably so... i got my NX80V the day it came out here in japan (just before the intial batch ran out)...

how 'bout you? when did you get your NX80V? was it say after the initial batch, etc?

hhhmmmm... that could explain it...

most of the NX80es that first came out here in japan had lots of errors, bugs, etc. etc.

you're really lucky!!!

i got a nx70 machine. there are two disadvantages for the nx80 to me:

1: the housing of the nx80 feels cheaper and is indeed less resistant against scratches and stuff.

2. the rejectable cf-slot is also often a cause of trouble - the one of the nx70 is much more resistant.

about the big camera i heared that it slows down the nx80 taking pictures.

what i would love is the brighter screen and the 4 more buttons on the screen side.

the cpu is different but not faster in the nx80. only if you gonna overclock your pda you have less limits with the nx80. i heared you are able to make 400mhz - i could not make my nx70 more than 300mhz. but there is almost no reason to do it - just mmplayer is worth to overclock for smoother videostreams.

are you saying that MMPlayer works on an NX-series machine?

i downloaded an mpeg trailer of matrix reloaded
i played it
it lagged very hard..
i overclocked mmplayer and played it again
i fiddled with audio and video buffers and B settings
it still lagged

i managed to sometimes get it to play somewhat smoothly..but it still has some kinks to work out..
or maybe the demo is limited some how, i'm not sure

mmplayer worked already before clipets new sound api - but only limited to the 8khz mono api by sony. was not really worth to use but still worth to check it out.
