Are there any alternatives available to Data Import which can be downloaded off the net? The reason I ask is that although I have DI on the disc from Sony, it is currently sitting in my office...and our first child arrived on Thurs. As a result, I'm not going to be back in the office for at least 10 days, and downloading pictures is a long drawn out affair. I have a Cybershot camera, so I usually put the MS stick in to my clie, and use DI to bring it across. But I changed my home computer a while back and didn't put DI on...when I try and connect it says it is missing the driver for the Sony mass storage device.

Can anyone help...I managed to get the pictures from the first 1hour on to our website by borrowing a friend's computer, but now I'm a bit stuck until I get back to the office.

The onyl you need is a Card Reader, buy one and you can copy all the photos a any computer, then when you'r back home, you get them back.

You don't need data import to copy them to a computer, well, at least it's not the only option.

I don't know if this helps, but Linux has native USB mass storage support for the Clies. Maybe you could try a live Linux distro like Knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html) and use it to mount the Clie and copy the photos to your Windows partition. Of course if you have no prior Linux experience this is likely to be very convoluted and rather complicated...

$20 will get you a jumpdrive trio. that's the quickest way to access your memory stick. other card readers need software installation.

Softick make a program called Card Import which allegedly works without needing drivers (It uses the built-in Windows USB Mass Storage drivers).

However, I have a feeling it doesn't work on Clies, but it might be worth checking out anyway.

If you try it, post results here :)

Many thanks for your replies - a fellow Cliesource member was kind enough to send me a copy of Data Import, which meant I got some pictures on to the website over last weekend (which kept all the relatives who wanted a picture of the baby happy), and in the meantime I had ordered a Jumpdrive Trio, which arrived on Tuesday. I also got one of the guys in the office to bring my Sony CD home so I have got my copy of Data Import installed

PBM - I've got one Sony DSC U-20 - so the only way to get the pictures off it is to remove the memory stick, and either put it in a card reader (which I had lost) or import it via the Clie and cradle (which wasn't working as Data Import had been erased from).

cheers
