For this version upgrade:
Added support for PalmOS5.0. Now you can run YiShow for CLIE on CLIE NX series.
Added Quick Launch Bar so that you can drag frequently used application on it for easy access.
Added option to turn off digital battery meter and available internal RAM.
Added option to turn off automatic database scanning.
Added option to only set text description when selecting an icon.
Due to an increment of functionality, the setup section for graphic/DOC display will be separated from Launcher's.
Many other enhancement such as faster screen refresh rate.

About time! Yes, now I can load the old skins onto OS5 and they look nice. Program seems to run a bit faster. Now to get Palmgear to upgrade their download section so us registered users can get the registered download version and I can dump the DEMO!

Ah, I thought it was just me (re Palmgear) - since they have Yishow for Palm listesd in my download list -- . . . .part of the mixup they had in November. I sent them an e-mail too, to update the download page, which fortunately seems to point to Yishow for Clie, just not the new version.
I would love to disable that autoscan database thing, particularly since I'm using Zlauncher now and using Yishow as an image viewer.

I've got the same problem, hopefully they will wake up and change the site sooner than on Monday :-)
As a registered user, I went to the registered download URL (at PalmGear) for YiShow, but they still have version 5.2 posted :(

I installed the demo from Yi Bing's site and it does not appear to behave as a demo. The "about page" looks just like my 5.2 version with the exception of 5.3. Like other programs, I'm hoping the demo recognizes the registration of the previous version.
Had something "gremlin-like" happen though. The first time I loaded the new version, WorldMate's icon did not appear anywhere, although the file was in RAM. I tried copying my backup copy of WorldMate into RAM, no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled WorldMate, no luck. Then I did a full restore of my RAM from the MS, taking me back to Yishow 5.2, reinstalled YiShow 5.3 and everything's fine! Go figure!

Although I'm a loyal user of YiShow, I'm disappointed that there aren't more significant enhancements to this version, especially with the timeframe since the last update. All that's added visually is a third "toggle bar" at the bottom with the built-in harware button apps that's uncustomizable. Would be of use if the apps could be changed, but as is . . . useless.
I still want to see the "tabs bar" editable as to sequence of the tabs. Yishow 5.3 does things a little faster. That's good.

I do not think that YiShow works this way because there is a separate version to download after you've paid for it, and no registration code nor place to enter one.

To correct my earlier complaint, the "third toggle bar" is a new "Quick Launch bar." You can drag your favorite apps to it and they will replace the hardware button apps. It's new so will have to play with it a while, but I have a feeling I'm going to like this a lot! :)

How good is the favorite apps thing? I'm not sure if I want to download the new version since I don't want to screw up my clie.
Oh, and do I have to delete 5.2 first?

I just played with that a tad .
What it comes down to is a third toolbar popup with space for any SEVEN app icons of your choosing. They're not really connected with the hard buttons at all, YiBing just happened to pick the four Palm apps and hotsync for his built-in skin.
I couldn't get any more than seven down there. The eighth always replaces one of the others. There's a "card" icon on the left (from the first popup panel) that never changes and holds through other skins.
The apps down there don't affect the actual hard buttons, you can still program them to do whatever you want through the Palm OS preferences panel.
So, it's a little bit like a seven-item favorites launcher list, except instead of popping up, it's just down there instead of the other icons or the categories.
Or it gives you the option of putting seven apps down there, setting your category on an empty category, and leaving the rest of the background set on an empty category.
BIG FIX over 5.2 -- you can use the up-down bar/button to jump a page down in the file manager. Instead of just one line.

A little note - I've got Zlauncher set as default launcher, Yishow NOT checked as default launcher. If I tap the "Home" icon on the graffiti screen from Yishow, it dumps me into the Palm default launcher.
That's the only time it does that. If I open an app in Yishow and then hit home, I get back to Zlauncher. Or if I use the "exit Yishow" menu item, or use a switch stroke in McPhling. . .
I'm just passing that along as a tip (don't hit "home" in Yishow) for anyone else who may not be using Yishow as a default launcher.

Thanks wellsjs I’ve been missing Yishow for a while.
Has anybody been able to get the background images to be displayed in the Skin manager? I'm wondering if this is just a problem with the NX.

That is correct, you have to download a new registered version to update. The demo stays a demo, no changing it.

Here's something I just discovered [but may have been a feature for awhile. :) When viewing images if you tap the upper half of the image the viewer will take you in one direction thru the list; tapping the bottom half will take you in the other direction. Pretty cool. I haven't yet figured out exactly how to stop the view, but I just tap a few places and it eventually goes back to the launcher.
I like ZLauncher's QuickLaunch better because of the number and "type" of things you can choose from, but at least this is a start. My main gripe with ZLauncher - an otherwise excellent program from an attentive company - is the size. I'm running low on space [c'mon Brayder, any day now!] and the 300-400K difference between YS and ZL makes a huge difference.

stopping pictures -- tap in the lower left quadrant of the photo. There's a big photo with crop marks in the manual, it shows where to top to go back a photo, forward a photo, and return to the directory.
I like Yishow as an image viewer. New version is even faster on photos. And (if you're using another launcher) you can leave Yishow sitting as a card reader - if you leave it when you're in a card directory, you'll be back at the card directory next time you go back into YiShow.

Between "Button Switcher" allowing multiple app launches for each hardware button and having seven quick launch apps in this toolbar, I can enjoy my backgrounds without icon clutter! I just set my icon page to "Unfiled" which is empty. This gives Yishow a very "clean interface" with all the power one needs "under the hood!" ;)

Indeed. I've started defaulting to unfiled in Zlauncher because between McPhling, the hard buttons, and Zlauncher's built-in quick launch, I'm able to quickly access about 18 of my most-oft used apps.
Not to mention, if unfiled is your default, you can instantly find the new apps you are playing with (and see if you need to do a manual refresh) -- and just leave it right there in plain sight until you decide whether or not to keep it.
If YiBing adds just a few more tweaks, I'd seriously consider going back to it as the primary launcher.
So, what is "Button Switcher"??? I only have single apps programmed to the hard buttons. . . .

Don't know about "Button Switcher", but Slow Launch and Easy Launch offer multiple apps per button capability. They are hacks though, so only work with os4.x and below. Slow Launch (my personal favorite) allows for one additional app per hard button, plus one each for the jog dial and back button. Easy Launch allows for up to three additional apps per hard button, but it's support of the jog dial and back button is a little dicey, plus, when I get that many apps per button, I can't keep track of where what is and with the NR, Jog Dial and Back Button support are more valuable.

Anita,
Button switcher will toggle between up to four apps per button, and can select a timeout reset. I don't use it yet, but you can set up different profiles with different button programming. It's small and I've had no conflicts with it. It is not a hack.

John,
I had the same thing but i figure that it got to do with the "Edit Category". It seems when you first install the Yishow 5.3, the old category seems to be in hay wire. What I did is to cleanse it by taping the initial button in "Edit Category" and put the application in the proper category again.

Yeah, seems to be some sort of bug in the upgrade from 5.2 to 5.3 regarding categories. Looks like I'm gonna have to use the old manual "Edit Categories" as well as opposed to the drag and drop I usually do.
Not sure if I accidentally deleted it or what, but I've gotta reinstall Vindigo as well.

Update - some apps just will not be moved. I've tried to drag certain apps to the new shortcut bar and they will not go! These are the same apps that had to be manually categorized (instead of drug onto the category.)

I've downloaded the new version of YiShow, but I have not been able to find the option to turn off the automatic database scanning.
Has anyone been able to do this?
hpmoon

The YiShow 5.3 manual strongly cautions against disabling the automatic database scanning function. However, that is the feature I loathe the most; it causes an excruciating delay between most applications, based on an indeterminate criteria (when does it decide to do so?). Of course, the OS 4.1 launcher does not have this delay.
Any help would be much appreciated. The manual naturally does a terrible job of describing even what the scanning function does.
Anita

Disable autoscan -- in the top menu go to Options-Setup; UNCHECK the scan app = autoscan box.
Note that further down in the options list is the "refresh apps" menu item, which is the manual scan you will have to do when you install new apps or move apps to the memory stick (or back) -- in order for the icons to show up in their proper place or unfiled.
Do a manual scan if you make data files launchable, to create their own icons.
YiShow has a habit of auto-scanning every time you open and close a database in RAM, that's what I hate. It scans every time I go in and out of Smartlist, Pocket TV browser, etc. etc. It scans when I go in and out of Docs to Go (where the apps get temporarily loaded from stick to ram), etc. . . .
I notice Yishow will STILL scan when you start it up (if it's not always running).
Anita
What I'd like to see in YiShow is the ability to display the apps in a list format like the default launcher, ZLauncher and other launchers can do. The only list option available is to list everything that's on the Clie in one all encompassing category.
I've emailed this request at least twice to Yi Bing, but I don't think I made myself clear enough.

Just a question, I downloaded the demo and it only said demo once. Does that mean that there are no other warnings until the 30 days is up? That seems kind of strange, demoware is supposed to be more of a hassle than that.

Is anyone else having this problem? Certain programs just will not be copied/moved using drag and drop. This means I can't put BibleReader on the new quick launch bar. I drag it to the bar and nothing happens. I'm not 100% sure yet, but it seems to be progs that are on the MS.

Anita,
You said "Do a manual scan if you make data files launchable, to create their own icons. " How do you make data files launchable? I tried this once but couln't get it to work.
Anita
03-01-2003, 10:35 AM
Well, I misspoke, I meant manual scan to make new APPS you've installed or moved to the memory stick launchable.
But for data files, you can use Filez or some other file management utility and check "launchable" in the attributes.
One caveat, Yishow isn't launching them for me, and I'm not sure why. Used to, but that changed with version 5.2.
Zlauncher, my primary launcher now, IS launching datafiles (Smartlist/ThinkDB, to be precise) . In Yishow the icons show up but the ThinkDB database won't launch. Perhaps others have a solution to this.

Hey Wellsjs-
I just read your post about the third toggle bar. You can change the hardware icons by dragging a new program icon to the toggle bar. It really is pretty cool. It replaces one each time you drag a new one.
Just a simple tip. . . .

I just bought YiShow 5.3 after trying out 5.2 and I had the same thing happen but with Zap2016 (which I just bought too) disappearing and my WorldMate is still there. I tried all of the same things you did, except for removing Yishow and restoring, and had no luck. I haven't had a chance to read this entire thread yet but hopefully I'll run across an easier less work intensive solution.

Anyone having problems moving apps back and forth from the clie to memory stick? It seems to work and then my nr70v crashes about 65% of the time. Here's the scenario:
hold down on an icon until I can select move from the menu.
Select move either from the palm or the ms
The bar showing the data transfer comes up and completes.
Then crash and it asks me to reset (and I can't so I have to take out the pen and...)
Anyway, that's my problem.
Thanks,
Shannon
