I would personally advise against upgrading to the new version. what let me to upgrade was the allure of having native widescreen support for my UX50. The last version worked fine, I just had to use CodeDiver to make it go widescreen. I opened a palmdoc on the new version and it sort of locked up and would not let me exit wordtogo. I have since deleted this version & am looking to install the previous one.

See, and for me, 6.004 did nothing but crash everytime I tried to read a Word doc, let alone save as another file type. 6.005 offered no changes for me either.

Does this get rid of the daily DataViz splash screen?

Upgraded on my NX80V and everything works fine!
BTW, I recommend when you get to the desktop install "sync now" screen, pulling up "Install Tool" and hunt down every file listed there. Determine where each file (old version) is installed on your handheld, i.e. Flash/RAM/MS? The ones in RAM should be automatically overwritten so whether or not you delete them first is moot, but you should use JackFlash to delete the ones in Flash before you hotsync! Make a list of the ones in flash/MS.
After hotsync, complete the desktop install part and then launch the main program on your PDA first (DocsToGo). Do a "Search for files" from the drop down menu if all your files don't show up. Assuming they now do, open JackFlash and move the files that were there before back there. If you had any running from the MS, move them back where they were. Run the main program again to make sure everything is working. Assuming that is fine, do a hotsync and make sure you don't get any post-sync error messages! Congrats! ;)
& just to think I'm still sticking with DTG5 that came with my NX70. :p

After DTG 6, I finally started using DTG exclusively, felt the upgrade added native files etc. to make it better than Wordsmith, Quickword, tinysheet etc.
I updated my NX80 to 6.008 with no problems, been using it for a few days. I also seem to have increased my available memory?

Poor performance?
Well, all versions have always performed well for me and 6.008 is no disappointment.
No serious improvements for the TH users, although there is Appleworks support now, which I personally enjoy..
UX users will like the fact that there is full screen support now.
It's not worth the update if you don't have a UX or a Mac though.

The splash screen duration apperars shorter, but I'll have to test that a few times to find out.
The improvements to Inbox togo are reason enough to upgrade. It allows you to put your email attachments on the MS rather than have them resident in RAM. The original version 6.000 did this but for some reason they removed that functionality in successive upgrades. Slightly enhanced gui is nice, but it could still go a long way in that catagory.
I've never had a stability problem on my NX70, so I can't comment on it from that standpoint other than to say it still doesn't appear to have problems for me.
I just copied the DTG6.008 files to memory stick and overwrote the appropriate files
DocsToGo.prc in /Palm/Programs/AliasExt/DTG6
SS_P2P.prc in /Palm/Programs/AliasExt/SS_P2P
WP_P2P.prc in /Palm/Programs/AliasExt/WP_P2P
and WordView+.prc (you have to rename the WordToGo.prc file) and SheetToGo.prc in /Palm/Launcher
worked like a charm. no problems
my experience:
the annoing "everyday" nagging screen is not there
documents now open much faster (its really noticable)
the global find bug is fixed
so far I'm a very happy camper :-)
p.s. I kept the code diver setting the same it was I had with 6.005 and the whole DTG6 works great. better then before :-)
and did I say it was way faster ?

Someone posted that DTG6 did not *yet* support landscape on the TH55. Do you know if they are working on that feature? Any comments of Dataviz on that issue?
I am running the trial right now and so far like what I see. Landscape would be a real treat when using it with the wireless keyboard.
It can't be that hard to implement, can it? Palmreader does it for ages now.

Is this upgrade for those of us who are running the DTG 6 professional edition that came as a free download with the TH55?
I received the email from DataViz about the 6.008 update and it said nothing about "premium," except to have an upgrade option for the premium. I clicked on the link to go to the download site and was offered an option to upgrade and another which said "no thanks but continue my download" or something like that. I clicked the latter and the download took place for the 6.008 update, saving it to my desktop. When I tried to execute the program, I got the following message: "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executible you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."
My question is, is the problem that I'm using an update for the wrong version of DTG? There was nothing telling me that this isn't for the professional version.
At any rate, I'm going to do it again and see what happens, but it takes forever to download.

yes it's hard to implement and I don't think there will ever be a landscape support for DTG6 on TH55 (the same goes for portrait support of UX50)

broadus,
Have you registered your DTG6.0 with Dataviz? To make sure you get the right version, "Pro" in your case, do that and after you register, go here:
http://support.dataviz.com/patches.html
Click on "Download latest version" and it should queue up your version for download after you enter your last name and registration number! ;)

Thanks, wellssjs, I'll do that. Yes, I am registered, having done it with the free download which came with the TH55. I am perplexed as to why Dataviz would send the update email to me with the instructions if my version did not qualify. Oh, well.

Maybe your file really did get corrupted during download. Have you tried downloading it again?

Would anyone fill me in on the CORRECT upgrade procedure? I am thinking to UNINSTALL all the modules from my UX50, but leave the WINDOWS install alone. Then double-click the installer for 6.008 and it'll overwrite the file on the desktop and queue the install of all of the 6.008 modules. Then I can HotSync and all the modules will be FRESHLY installed onto my UX50. Does this seem like too much work for upgrading, or does it seem to be the CLEANEST method for making sure files are not doubled, etc?
Thanks for your input.

I think you're right. I downloaded again and closed all my other web pages, including Outlook Express with its times send/receive. The program extracted itself after the download and was successfully hotsynced with the TH55.
Now I need to decide if I want (need?) to upgrade to the premium edition for $29.99 and be charged for later, significant, upgrades or switch to WordSmith for $25 and never be charged for later upgrades.

Rob,
See my first post on page one. You need your fresh install to follow the same file trail you have now, i.e. RAM, Flash, MS. You can do as you suggested if all your original load files are in RAM, and yes your desktop portion will load over your existing install just fine. If you have moved any files to Flash, I highly recommend deleting them prior to installing 6.08. If you're running any from your MS, it won't hurt to do the install to RAM and copy over the existing files by moving those files to the same folder on your MS.
Downloaded the update 6.008 and it worked fine, though I would like to see a bigger point upgrade than this one.
At present DTG doesn't, as far as I am aware, support footnotes in Word docs or are you allowed to manually set column sizes in SheetToGo.

Well I uninstalled both the windows and Palm versions of Docs to Go and re-installed both to Windows and to the CLIE. All is working fine now. Good thing there aren't any prefs to reset, or I would have been re-configuring all night!
