Hands High Software has reversed their decision regarding SMBMate.

SMBMate can now be distributed freely.

If someone has the link to SMBMate, please post it again so that I can copy it and put it in the Cliesource Files Section.

Thanks for all the help in clearing up this matter regarding SMBMate.

Alrighty then. I'll personally upload it to you.
Tomorrow, if you're still interested then.
Forgive me for being sceptical, but I believe nothing posted on April 1st.
As much as I want to believe that Apple has finally announced their PDA, I'm not going for it....

I sent hands high a rather long and *****y email yesterday regarding this, and recieved back a reply that they asked people and organisations to stop distributing their software because they are rewriting it into a good program. i replied back that all they were doing is replacing the GUI, making it seem more streamlined, and that they weren't actually adding any functionality.
If this is true, it seems that my(and most likely others) complaining has gotten across the point that we will not pay 30 dollars for a rewritten GUI.

here is the link anyway,

If this is an April fools, simply dont download the software.

Well, it's nice that they emailed you back.
However, SMBMate is ALREADY a good program.
I can't imagine ANYTHING H.H. could do to make it better.
Honestly, what more does it need to do??

Hint to Hands High: "Cost 30 bucks" is NOT on that list.

I'm glad that Hands High reversed their decision. It's really the only thing they could do.

As for WiFile, it's entirely possible that it may be far superior to SMBMate. SMBMate does what it's supposed to superbly, but from the Hands High site description of WiFile, it's possible that SMB shares could be wrapped to appear as additional VFS volumes, or something similar... I'm just guessing by their press release.

WiFile should be released shortly, and I'll definitely check out a demo. I'm not willing to write off a piece of software that hasn't even been released yet. :)

Anyone have an actual description of what this is and does?

SMB (Server Message Block) client/server protocol was designed primary for sharing resources (files, printers, devices) across networks. Now SMB protocol as well as its inheritor CIFS (Common Internet File System) is used on many platforms and operating systems. The most popular implementation of SMB protocol is the Microsoft's implementation. The Microsoft Windows OS family uses SMB/CIFS for sharing their files and printers across network. There are SMB implementations for UNIX, MAC and other platforms.

SMB is client/server protocol. It means that must be a server that share their resources and a client who communicates with a server and uses resources. SmbMate is a client implementing SMB over TCP/IP transport.

Well that’s great news, if this site is ever down you can always find it here where it will remain. I think my previous links were removed.

One user asked what could possibly be made better in SMBMate. Here's a few things:

- Ability to read/change ACLs (ownership, permissions) on files/directories.
- Ability to move files on a share.
- Ability to see long file names without choosing "Properties" for each and every file.
- Ability to select by wildcard.
- View/show hidden files.
- Remembering last local directory.
- Explanation of what the three types of optimisation actually does.
- Find

Then you will be happy with SMBMate. It already does that - and quite well! :)
