View Full Version : MP3 and Audio Books
My first PDA was the PalmVx. When it came time to upgrade I was deciding between the 615 and 665. The big question was "Do I want to pay an extra $100 for mp3 capabilities?" I then asked myself "Self, how else can I use the mp3 player besides listening to music?" The answer was Audio Books. I ended up buying the 665 and I love it. Besides listening to music I have also used it to listen to audio books and its been great.

I have a question for you. Are you able to bookmark a spot in the middle of something you're listening to so that you can get back to that spot?
If you do, let me know what you are using.
stay cool.

The difference between T615 and T665 are beyong just the MP3 capabilities. Better screen, faster CPU, faster MS access are few of the features that seperate them.

I know of no audioplayers that have something like a bookmark feature, something I've been looking for myself.
That is, unless you never exit the sony audioplayer, then it resumes.
I don't even see a method to access a certain hour/minute directly, such as the slide bar on winamp.
You just have to fast forward to the spot.

You should've mention the most critical feature: worse battery life. ;)

Can you cut an audio book from CD to MP3? This might help me to decide to make the leap from my rapidly aging T415.

You can convert a Audio CD to mp3. I can't remember what software I used (do a google search for converters, I can't remember the file type of the cd tracks. ) I believe I had to convert the files from whatever they were to wave files then to mp3. (there may be an even faster way to do it) Then I loaded the mp3 tracks onto my mem stick. Right now I have the first 2 cds of Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone with me.

Hi - I ripped my mp3's off of the Harry Potter CD's to listen to on my T665 using Itunes 4 - but when I go to read them, they come up as write-protected or corrupted. My guess it write-protected. Anyone have a work-around?
Thanks!

Hi,
Where did you get your audio books from?
I've bought most at book stores. Another source to try is audible.com.
Unregistered, yes, the reason it says "write-protected" is because you burned the files in iTunes 4 at a bit rate less than 56, if you try 56 or above, they will work - trust me on this one. I record Rush, Hannity, Michael Savage and Michael Reagan talk shows at 56 at take them with me on my memory stick. I record at 56. I can fit about 9 hours recorded at 56 on a 256 MB memory stick

Signed in this time....
Thanks for the response! I did rip them at 56, but I'll try to do it higher this time.
I actually get my audio books from the library - but for the record, I only want to listen to the books while at the gym, not copy them. :-)
