I've been through a couple of UX-50 units trying to get one without a crooked screen, without success...each one seems mopre crooked than the rest. Does anyone have a UX-50 that came out of the box with the screen perfectly aligned with the base? Just curious...

Nope. Bought mine last week brand new and the screen has a slight lean to the right when open. No biggy as far as I'm concerned as it's so slight...I actually didn't even notice it till a few hours after I had it.
Yes, my screen is not crooked and does not whine.

I have a very early UX-50 that I pre-ordered directly from Sony before they released them. The screen is straight and the only whining comes from me. :D
Bye.

Mine used to whine and was crooked, but has been fine ever since Sony fixed it last December.

Hmm..I wonder what Sony would do if I decided to complain about my crooked screen?

Taking your UX into Sony is a risk. The main reason I took mine in was for the excessive whining, and I just mentioned the crooked screen in passing. I lucked out. If all it is is slightly crooked, I'd pass. If you can physically walk your unit into a Sony depot, you might be able to get a "warm and fuzzy" feeling by talking to them about fixing it, and making the desicion on the spot.
