what's the best e-mail program to use with the LAN
card. I have tried aol but its a pain.
what are pop emails and which services use them.

I like cliemail, but you could also try the Eudora Internet Suite for palm, it has an email and web client.

PS: AOL is basically the only ISP that I'm aware of that doesn't use POP3, almost every other ISP does. Its just one of those bonehead things AOL decided to do.
