I woke up this morning and turned on my machine and saw that Backupman had done it's thing (Good thing too) during the night but then I got to work and it wouldn't turn on.
I had a totally dark screen with no power light and a soft reset and hard reset would not fix it.
Then I noticed this buzzing sound and so I a borrowed a screw driver from maintanace, opened the battery compartment, disconnected it then re-connected and still no life!
Now I have the Best Buy PSP, but as you may or may not know BB no longer carries the NX80 (in the store or online) and as far as I can see they barely have any pdas for sale(in store).
Things get worse for me as I can't locate my PSP agreement and have to head down to the BB and just try my luck with out it.
One of friends with an NX80 met me there and the Tech support looked up service plan agreement, found, tried to find an NX80, an NX80 battery and then finally swapped my battery with my friends to make sure I didn't have a dead battery (I had hoped that that was all it was) but it didn't work.
Then told me I could have and earlier HP palm (the only palm on the shelf) or get a 600 BB voucher, buy my own NX80 (which I did this very evening) and then bring it to the store and they'll refund me that amount (317 online) and give me the difference in store credit.
I looked around before I purchased and I still felt the NX80 was the best purchase for my money and it will be a nice backup to my OS6 unit (when it comes out) for just this kind of situation as currently (until monday/tuesday anway) I'm using my girlfriends T615C.
A happy ending for me... I hope!

wow, I'm impressed by the BB performance guarantee. I've always avoided those things because I feel like I'm getting ripped off... do you always luck out on these things, and recommend the PSP?
How much?

Very interesting, since my NX80 died just days ago - with similar symptoms. Did you hear any rattling inside? I took out my CF card and shook the Clie upside down a bit and out popped two little pieces of metal that I'm guessing shorted something out on the board.
I recorded the sound mine made right after it died. Did yours make this same sound?

Here's a picture or the pieces to compare if you did have some rattling.

I never had a problem with buying them after I used it the 1st time with no problem.
I definitely reccommend it for high priced pdas and most in cases they let you upgrade for the diffrenence and sometimes they just upgrade you to the next model for free.
I used the PSP to replace my 2500 notebook a few months ago as well.
I don't try to abuse the policy, but I do use it to my advantage since I purchased the PSP and I've never had a problem with sales, management and most recently (yesterday) phone support to return or exchange any items.
I have the PSP on some big ticket items like my big screen tv, notebook computer and some other things, but have only used for my notebook and PDAs as these are the only items I've experienced problems with.
I believe the new psp policy has somewhat changed and the ruls of return and/or exchange are different now, but I paid somewhere around 60 for the pda psp and 250 for my notebook psp which includes them giving me a brand new battery each year of the psp upon request so in this case, the psp more than pays fo itself even if nothing ever went wrong.

Man pusfarm, sorry hear about your baby too!
OK, I'm actually doing this right now and do hear a rattle and I took the lanyard (just make sure that this wasn't it) off and tried it with the cf opened and closed and I still hear it and nothings fallen out.
It sucks though because I didn't drop, I didn't add any software (been to busy to do so) the night before, I keep it alone in 1 pocket and don't think static did it.
Are you sending yours to Sony or do you have a service plan?

Man, I can tell you've done this before or atleast know more than I originally did.
I had no clue that they'd tell me to just send in the paperwork and keep the old unit!
Appr. how much anyway?
I had considered using it for spare parts or just opening it up to see what's cracking on the inside.

Are you sending yours to Sony or do you have a service plan? Yeah, I'm sending it to Sony. They're sending me a box for shipment to them. I didn't drop mine either and have taken very good care of it. I've only had it since August, but didn't register so technically my warranty is gone, but I'm gonna fight them on it if it comes to that.
I guess my zip file and pic didn't come through - I know it takes awhile, but usually not this long!. I'll try again, this time all in one zip file.

I agree that it is nice that they aren't making me jump through hoops to get a new one.
The battery plug is connected to the motherboard.
And you're very welcome.

I think my NX80 is nearing its end too. WAClock refuses to work even after a fresh hard reset. And ClieFAQ, Diddlebug, and Lightspeed still don't work up to this date. All of them give some invalid chunk pointer error or something.
Overtime, it goes to fatal errors ever more frequently, and I can no longer trust it to wake me up with its alarm. Sometimes it hangs up in the middle of the night, wasting battery power down to some 10% in the morning.
And I've only gotten it in September ...

Okay, you guys are freaking me out now. I've had mine since August, and so far it's holding steady -- but for how long, I wonder? I'm counting on my '80 to keep me going until OS6 arrives. And no, I don't want a TH55, thank you very much.

I'm sorry to hear that you're NX80 died stronggeek. I'm not sure what I'd do without my NX80 (even though I bought the TH55...I'm most likely keeping both). May you're NX80 rest in peace...I'm sure it's in a better place - free of dust, water, damage, and hazards.

acraniotes, I wouldn't be to concerned, I think mine situation is a freak inccident more than the norm.
I'm lucky to get a break with everything I do to mine like overclocking, jackflashing and stuff.
I'm almost certain that if your reading this that most of you are atleast using Jackflash anyway and I'm going to use again on my new one!

coolride, thanks for condolensces and yes it is tough without it.
It's amazing how many things I uses it for and just take for granted like yesterday I wanted to use Splash id to look up my checking account 3 and since I didn't put everything in my girlfriends T615 while borrowing it I didn't have the info, then the other day I wanted to show some pics and same thing and then also I can't take pics whenever I want as I also use my NX80 camera as a photo copier for homework as well as take improtu shots of my kids.
It does suck!
Now I feel like I'm using a basic organizer again, but atleast I have something until the new one arrives today or tomorrow.
I have to sign for it so now I'm sweatin not being here for the delivery!.
