I hope you dont mind reg, since i saved this before and cliesource lost its database, hope this helps everyone! :) Thank Reggie for it! :)
PC:
- Win XP Pro
- Intel ethernet card connected to Cable modem
- Integrated Bluetooth on motherboard (MSI 845E Max2-BLR)
Clie:
- Clie NR70V
- Sony Bluetooth Module
Apps:
- Bluetooth drivers
- Hotsync app
- Pocketlink 2.27
The first thing I had to do was to install all the Bluetooth drivers without the "jp" extension that I found in the Japanese CD that came with the Bluetooth Module. A restart was necessary to have the drivers run and make the blue LED of the bluetooth module glow.
Under Prefs, a new 'Bluetooth' entry appeared. This lets you scan your surroundings for Bluetooth enabled devices. It detected my PC and I created a trust relationship between the two, setting a common password to make sure that neighbors having Bluetooth devices, can't just connect to my mini Bluetooth network.
Under Prefs->Connection, I created a new entry called 'Bluetooth Connection', and specified it to connec to the Local Netowrk via Bluetooth with my PC as the main device. I also changed its Details to use 115,200bps as its speed and Automatic Flow Ctl.
Having my Clie connect to my PC was really straight forward. All I had to do is was to setup my Hotsync manager to listen to my Local COM 5 (which my Bluetooth card was using). I also made sure that I checked both Local USB and Local Serial in case I want to use the crable, or use Bluetooth.
On my Clie, I configured the Hotsync app to connect Local using the 'Bluetooth Connection' I created in Prefs->Connection. Clicking on the hotsync icon syncs my Clie as if it's on the cradle. I though it was really cool, allowing me to hotsync at the living room when my PC was in the bedroom.
That was all yesterday night. Tonight, I decided to become adventurous and wanted to try out surfing on the Clie. New to Bluetooth, I tried reading on threads regarding Bluetooth. My first impression was, if I wanted to surf, I needed to use a $9.95 app called Mocha PPP on my PC to share my Internet connection. Actually, it's easier that I thought.
Since I was using WinXP, I just went to Control Panel->Network Connections, and ran the Network Setup Wizard (yes, i used the wizard). I chose the first option, that my PC connects directly to the internet, and I would like other computers to connect to the network using the same connection. I chose my Intel Ethernet card as my main internet connection, and on the next screen, I chose my Bluetooth card as the other connection to bridge to the Intel card. I gave it a minute to do it's changes and that's it!
On my Clie, under Prefs->Netwrok, I created a new service called 'Bluetooth Network', left blank both the user name and password, and chose 'Bluetooth Connection' as the connection. Under details, I chose PPP as the connection type, never timeout, checked both Query DNS and Automatic IP address. Under Script, I left it blank.
I ran PocketLink and under Settings->Network Settings, I just specified 'Bluetooth Network', and under Settings->Modem Settings, I chose 'Bluetooth Connection'. I clicked PocketLink's Home toolbar icon, and the Clie connected to my PC, and started downloading Pocketlink's web pages! I tried to connect to Google, and it worked. I tried connecting to ClieSource, and it downloaded the main page for maybe 30 seconds. I tried clicking on an active topic, that was then it failed. I figured it has something to do with cookies, etc. Oh well, I'm really very happy that everytihng performed well, and decided to share it with everyone.
I know that Pocketlink might not be the best browser out there but it was the newest one in the files section and I think it does perform really well. One thing I wish is if it can use smaller fonts, and allow me to browse on hires+ and on landscape mode.
Well, I hope some of you can duplicate my steps and probably come out with more efficient solutions, as well as recommend good apps.
I'll try to answer any questions about my setup if I can.
My next project will be the Sony-Ericsson T68i and the HBH-30.
Regards everyone.
Reggie
