Hi All,

Forgive me if this question has been asked many times. Please provide your experience and expertise after using and researching about the BEST MEMORY.

As every one knows the memory sticks are pretty expensive and like everyone I want to spend only once in good NX80 compatible memory.

While searching for MS, I found many like
Memory Stick PRO, PRO SDMSP and PRO MSX etc, how do they differ and which one is the best?

Any help/link/tutorial/deals will be great help.

Thanks a lot!

Your NX80V (and mine too) can use all Sony or other brand memory sticks. So go for the least expensive one.

I wanna know what are the benefits of using memory sticks rather than CF cards, CF are cheaper.

Here's a hint. This has all been covered A LOT on this site. Perform a basic search and you will find answers to most, if not all of your questions.

Benefits of CF is it's much cheaper than MS.

the NX80 will only work with the sony sticks. so naturally, sony sticks are the best. don't bother with the other cheaper memory sticks by sandisk or lexar. they have had problems and frequently catch fire and combust under normal usage. as for compact flash, umm . . . . they are radioactive and will give you cancer.

u r funny PBM808. Do you work at Sony ? You blame Sandisk and Lexar MemorySticks and CF card are not radioactive :) :p :D !
Sandisk and lexar have got troubles in saving movie files when using Movie recorder. In capturing and everything else they are fine. I would take MS DUO Pro sicks. They are not more expensiv than the normal sticks. I am sure, there will be a time Sony only support the MS Duo formfactor. Compact Flash are good for storage and playing audio/video files (with the players of the ux). But DO NOT buy the mircodrives. They really suck the power out of the battery!

I have never bought a Sony branded MS. I have used the same Lexar & Sandisk MS for 3 years now and never a problem.

Money - that is the deciding factor. I use a Sandisk and no probs. Buy whichever falls the cheapest for you. Also if you are living in India, I suggest you get a friend to get it from the US or something. That what I did - a lot cheaper. Here it cost INR 7000 - 10000 for a SONY - get from the US and you will pay only about INR 2500-3000. :)

But only CF you are not able to play Movies, watch Photo, listen Audio etc. if you are not using the latest version of the Sony SW. i.e. the built in ones can not handle CF only!

i'm a little weary of using a cf in my nx80 ALL the time..
the slot is so cool, but i feel it might break sometime
so that slot will be reserved exclusively for the WL110.
i need to get a bigger MS. maybe a 256. anyone want to trade my two 128 meg sticks? :D

i like using my lexar because it has a clear casing around it, with that cool blinky light

Blinky lights rule. I'm like a deer in headlights with that blinky lexar jammy. :p

Greetings!

The best memory stick for the NX80? Hmmm.....

The LARGEST one you can afford, of course! :D

Best wishes,
Bawko

Hm', I have 1 GB CF in the slot the last 4 months nonstop and don't see any kind of issues, why this should break. With the CF in it's hard to imagine it could break accidently. Except you try it as a replacement of your chair;)

well the exchange rate is about 45. So if you take $1 = Rs45, then Rs 7000 would be about $145 - and that is for the 256 MB. Not bad huh ? That why I suggested to do what i did. Wait for a friend to go to the US and ask him to bring it for you. No shipping and you pay a lesser cost. :)

I have been using SanDisk & find them to be quite reliable with 5year warranty. I would never go for the Lexar though. Just my personal preference. Why pay more for Sony products when it's only for storage purposes?

& with the recent release of MS PRO DUO, I'd pay just a little bit more for one of those 256MS PRO DUO, since the DUO MSs are good for both CLIEs & Sony digital Cameras. :)

Bought a SanDisk a while back. It had a $10 rebate.  I jumped through all the hoops, filled out all the forms, did everything required.

At this point, I've received no rebate.  No replies to my email to the company either.

So I'd recommend any OTHER brand.  At this point, they ripped me for a lousy stinkin' $10 but they lost a customer for life.

And like most of the other folks who frequent this board, I'm the "tech geek guy" in my circle of friends, so they all ask me for my recommendations on what to buy.  SanDisk has lost all of them as well.

I you enjoy my $10, SanDisk.  It's the last $$ you'll get from me and anybody I know.

Any idea about the Magic Gate memories?
any one used 256MB Memory Stick PRO with MagicGate™ ?

The Mad Dog

yes, here. But I dont use the Magic Gate function of the Stick. I like the mp3 files better than atrac3. It is a real allrounder! enough space for mp3 or videos

Yeah, I'm currently using one of those 256MS PRO DUO with my Sony T1. :D
As with the MagicGate memory on the DUOs sticks, isn't that just a copyright protection for data files?

Isn't the MagicGate protection on the DUOs just for data encryption so that one can't use your MS on another CLIE unit?
The other MagicGate supporting ATRAC3 are MS that are white in color. & yes, they do have MemoryStick DUOs in 128MB White color, which supports ATRAC3 music. :)

I too enjoy using MP3 music formats on with my CLIE & easy storage on the MS. I just use CD2MP3. :D
