I installed some downloaded software into my handheld and was told to reset it by pressing the RESET button on the screen. I did so many times..no response..and then I had to hard reset it..it froze at the ERROR page..hard eset again..still ERROR page..i wanted to turn it off and restart it again, pushed the POWER button on the side of the body..no response..the handheld didn't turn off..IT COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF..i had no choice but letting it on and freeze at the ERROR page..
The next morning the battery drained and the handheld was OFF. I started it after recharging it..still ERROR page, still no response with SOFT RESET and HARD RESET, still could not be turned off..
I drained and recharged and restarted it once again..still froze at the ERROR page..it says: ERROR MEMORY....Line: 3564....press the RESET button.
I really don't know what to do now, especially this is the 1st time I use a pda with OS system..I need your help..
Thanks in advance..

you said that the handheld does not turn off ... just curious but how did you do a hard-reset in this case ???

I just pressed the RESET button on the side of the body, not the RESET button on the screen..
Is it a hard-reset???

no I think that is a soft-reset. A hard reset should be when you keep the button pressed and at the same time switch it off. So i think you did a soft reset not a hard reset. try doing that and then see what it says.

Thanks seraphim_9:11.
I cannot switch it off by pressing the POWER button seperately..Can I hard-reset it as you told me?
After all, thank you very much and I will tell you the result tomorrow.

that was my initial question - there may be some other options like warm reset etc. but I really dont know much about those. You could try the hard reset but just be warned that if it does hard reset itself, anything and everything that you loaded will be gone. It will go back to factory standards. i.e. to what it was like when you initially bought the Clie. All the best .

To do a warm reset simply hold down the "up" button and push the reset button. Once the logo shows release the "up" button and press "ctrl" and "h" on the keyboard (has to be done this way b/c there will be no grafitti area). Next, navigate to cliefiles, filez, or another file manager of your choice and delete the offending app. Good luck and post back with your results.

Or another easier way if to goto your Local Disk>Program Files>Sony Handheld>[Your USER NAME]>Backup and delete the offending file you installed from there. Now put your CLIE on the cradle and attempt to hotsync.

neither hard-reset nor warm-reset works
and nothing on the screen is available
the up button is in broken-line and cannot be operated
and cannot hotsync with pc via usb port
pay additional attention on MEMORYMGR.C LINE:3564...
that's the key...maybe
thank's everyone

i think you need to call the SONY support (though I dont know how much they could really help  ). I think some memory variables are either corrupt or arent getting initialised. This is probably causing a mis-alignment in the systems variables. Unfortunately, in your case I dont think it can be solved by the user and would require the support people to solve it. Give them a call and see what they say. All the best .. though I hope I am wrong !!! :)

hey buddies, I have achieved it and let's share the simplest way to handle such cases.
well..after trying every "reasonable" attempt with no result, I disassembled it by removing the back cover..at first, i imagined there will be a battery on the main board, just like a pc main board..do you remember if a pc cannot start and we don't know the exact reason, we discharge the cmos battery and always can do it, right?..ok..let's get back on what I did..I saw a plug-in connection, which seems to connecting with hard disc(maybe the ROM, I don't know)..I disconnected it and connected it back..and then I saw the indicator LED flashing now and then..I switched on the CLIE, everything OK but to navigate once more..
That's my adventure with CLIE..hope it can help the one having the same trouble..but I cannot guarantee you can do it..hah..It is the last straw..
enjoy our CLIEs

Hang on - I thought you said that you discharged it completely. In effect thats exactly what it does (like the CMOS). Recently mine was discharged completely and I had to install everything again. The handheld goes off when you have low battery but the battery is not 100% discharged. This is done in order to save your stuff that you loaded. So maybe your battery was not completely discharged. If that was the case then you probably would not need to open it up. Anyways, glad to know that everything is ok with your Clie ... have fun !! :)
