Help....!!!

I have been trying for 2 days, still unable to connect to my company's WIFI hotspot - LINKSYS Model WAP11.

I did PREFS -> NETWORK -> DETAILS -> SCAN it finds the Access Point and returns the correct information with signal strength 100. SELECT -> CONNECT initially says 'Connecting:[SSIDname]'but then gives the Timeout error.

I referred to this thread:
http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28560&highlight=WIFI

However, people suggested to upgrade the AP's firmware; I cant upgrade my corporate AP's firmware. I have no access to the network administration. From the thread, there is no solid solution recommended yet.

What if I want to connect to the Public Hotspot? Sony cant expect me to go to upgrade the AP Provider's firmware for them before I can get access to.

Are you sure that you're AP isn't WEP protected?

Yes, it is WEP protected: 128 bit, 26 char (Hex) key. I have entered the Hex Key accordingly to my Clie. It is not working....

What else could be wrong?

Thanks!

Perhaps they limit access to the AP based on MAC address. Sure they might be broadcasting the SSID, but since they were wise enough to enable WEP they may limit access to MAC addresses entered into the AP.

There could be several other issues. Did they limit the number of IP addresses that are issued? i.e. Did they issue five and are they all taken by other clients?

Is it a G router? Did they limit access only to G clients? (ok, i just saw the WAP11 model. Forget this, but if this thread is picked up in a search, it is an issue.)

Another problem I have is when trying to connect to any Linksys Router that uses channel seven and up. It just doesn't work. Even with an adhoc connection to a D-Link card. I had to set the channel to six or lower. (Yeah weird, but that's the way it is on my UX)

I've never been able to make a connection with 128-bit WEP keys.

Try using a static IP Address.

Let me know if that works.

I have an issue with my UX50. Static IPs work but DHCP doesn't. There is another thread on the Internet that states that the UX50 cannot handle certain DHCP messages.

Did you also try entering the Hex key in different formats? e.g.

a0:b1:c2:d3...
a0b1c2d3...
a0-b1-c2-d3...
A0:B1:C2:D3...

etc?

I finally get connected to the WiFi with the following setting:

SSID: CompanyName
WEP Key: 128 Bits
Adhoc mode: YES, 6ch
IP: Use Fixed IP
Auto Connect = NO

I tap the "Connect" button, and it is connected. I checked the Status, it shows the Strength is 96%. Everything looks good.

However, when I type the URL to surf, I received:
"Invalid network settings"

What is going on here? How come it is so difficult to use the UX's WiFi?

Please help......

I get the same problem with Netfront. Try opening mail first. Then open Netfront afterwards. Also, try it again, but in Infrastructure mode, not Adhoc.

If this works, I suggest you open a report with Sony and let them know what happened. I did the same thing and they told me "we've never seen this before"....

Yeah Right!!! With enough people logging issues with them, maybe they'll get around to a bug fix.

When you call them, tell them it's a bug and several people on Cliesource have experienced it.

Sometimes things are touchy about upper vs. lowercase and using no separator vs. a ":" or a "-", but it sounds like (from your follow-up post) that you connected as-is.

I hope Infrastructure Mode fixed the problem.

Does your company use a Proxy Server to connect to the internet? If so, you have to select "Use Proxy" and enter the Address and Port number in the Netfront Settings (2/4)
