On my new T665c, I get the following error message whn I run Jacksprat Light (current version).
"There is not enough space in Flash to use Jackflash Light or Jackflash."
I thought we could use Jackflash with the T665? Am I doing something wrong?

have you run jacksprat first to clean up unwanted programs from flash rom?

I think that the T665C has 64K of free Flash from the box. I used JackSprat 2.0b6 or higher to remove over 1 MB of stuff from Flash that I never use. JackFlash then enable me to move some big stuff into Flash. Works like a charm, but be sure to back up your native Flash first using JackSprat and then keep a copy somewhere safe just in case.

Tanker,
you mean with the jackflash software, you can actually remove the application in the ROM and replace it with other applicaiton ?? If so, can you show me the thread to the jackflash software ?? I would really like to remove lots of the ROM applications because I used 3rd party softwares replacement.

No, but JackSprat can remove ROM software and JackFlash can then replace it. I have a primer on my website, in which I list the stuff I removed from my T665C. I don't use any of the standard built-ins apps except audioplayer and Clie RMS. JackSprat (http://www.brayder.com/products/jacksprat_beta.html) and JackFlash (http://www.brayder.com/products/jackflash.html) by Brayder. JackSprat 2.0b12 has been current for several months as in totally stable. No need to be concerned about the beta designation.

Is there anyway to remove the RMC and TV def files from the ROM? I didn't see as an option in jacksprat.
Thanks.... Jace

JackSprat 2.0b12 does on my T665C, but I love Clie RMC!

Thanks for the thread Tanker. I'll give it a shot but I will do some back up before I try.

You're welcome. Backup extensively, and then back up those backups. Never hurts to be a bit paranoid, eh? ;)

Tanker -
I've always backup up with JackSprat but never have had to reflash a Palm or Clie yet - is it easy to do? What's the proper procedure? Thanks. Mary

Its very easy, though it will erase everything in RAM. I recommend backing up your original ROM by Hotsync rather than to the card, then back up your backup somewhere else safe.
According to JackSprat's documentation:
If you backed up your ROM via HotSync, then you will need to restore it via HotSync as well.
1. Perform a hard reset to clear all the data on your handheld.
2. Place the handheld in the cradle and press the HotSync button to perform a HotSync. A dialog appears, displaying a username list.
3. Select the user name that you created for the ROM backup and restore the handheld. Once the HotSync is completes successfully, a file called “FlashWrite” on appears on your handheld.
4. Launch “FlashWrite” and tap RESTORE PALMOS.
5. A message appears, warning you that installing the OS also requires erasing the RAM. If you are readying to proceed, tap OK.
The software begins restoring the ROM. The process takes approximately three minutes, after which the handheld automatically performs a Hard Reset.
6. The prompt “Erase All Data?” appears. Press the “Up” scroll button to erase the RAM and successfully boot the restored OS.
You have now fully restored your handheld with the original ROM image.
I did this twice, once on a T615C and once on a T665C, and it worked perfectly both times.

Thanks TBob -
I've read threads where people have trouble and their Palm/Clie is never the same again - perhaps they had hacks running or possibly never backed up properly to begin with - so I was afraid to try it. I'm thinking I'll try it on an old Palm IIIc I have that only works in the cradle, maybe she might come back to life!
I've read your helpful hints ALOT over the last couple years of my Palm habit. You always bring info to the table that is easy to understand and without sarcasm. I appreciate your webpage as it helped with memory stick questions and explanations. Thanks for taking your time to help us. Mary

Mary,
Thank you for your kind words. As long as you have a proper ROM backup (again, I recommend using Hotsync vs. card) and a reliable Hotsync connection, you should have no problems. Feel free to ask any time if you need help.
