I finally decided to plunk down money for Palm Reader Pro, but am confused on whether to buy the $29.99 package with the fonts or just get the $19.99 without the fonts.

will the fonts make a big difference?

will they matter if i am already using Fonts4UX?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I bought the fonts and wished I hadn't, since I really don't like any of them. Lubak has 3 or 4 fonts that I prefer to any in the PRP fonts package. But that's just me, you may feel the opposite.

well i dont know any different, but based on your experience, i will go for the package without the fonts and use my Fonts4UX to adjust the view.

Thanks rldunn!

The fonts aren't worth the money.
I found the dictionary was very marginal at best - you really need to buy a better dictionary package (more money spent) on the better featured words to do anything more.

PalmReaderPro has the following which the free Palmreader hasn't:
1) Pocket Dictionary
2) Added fonts
3) Selected colour schemes

If you can live without any of the above, I suggest that you stick with the free reader version.

Greetings!

Before you pay for PalmReaderPro, consider TiBR. I tried both and decided that TiBR was a better value, it cost 1/2 as much and supports more file formats (PalmDOC, Ztxt, and plain text). The button assignment and scrolling options are better too.

Just my opinion - your needs might be different.

Best wishes,

I would NOT recommend buying the fonts. They are not designed for a hi-rez screen, so they look either too small, too thin, or too large to view comfortably on the Clie. I bought the ITC font pack, and I wish I hadn't. The only one I like is Charter ITC 18-- too much $ to pay for only one useable font. The PDM website doesn't make this fact clear, nor did the many posts I read in forums before buying.

You can use Lubak's fonts with Palm Reader Pro, and they work very nicely. I do think Palm Reader Pro is the best reader out there, and I think you will be glad you upgraded from the free reader.

It used to be lacking quite a bit (took them awhile to support a high-res screen), but now it's a good reader in it's own right.

rldunn,

How do PalmReader books differ from PalmDoc books? Are they really 2 different formats, or are PalmReader books an extended version of PalmDoc format?

Best wishes,
Bawko

I'm not rldunn, but I'll answer . . . they are two separate things. Palmdoc are 'generic' and can be read by many readers, including iSilo, TiBr, DeepReader, etc.

PalmReader books are encrypted on purchase with your CC being the key. You can only unlock them in PalmReader.

YellowRose,

Thanks for the explaination! When I was previewing PalmReader, I only used it to open standard PalmDoc books - so I was unaware of the PalmReader book format.

Best wishes,
