View Full Version : Please Help! NX80 Crashed After Installing Netfront 3.1

I installed NF 3.1 onto my NX80 (running ZLauncher) using one of the prescribed ways in this forum (used Data Import to copy netfront31.prc to Memory Stick, then moved the file to the Palm/Launcher folder). Then I used ZLauncher to "Refresh Apps", and the icon for NF 3.1 appeared. I click on it and hop onto the Internet, then when I exit the program, my NX80 crashes and won't get out of the crash "loop." (I'm running Crash, BTW, a program that's supposed to catch/prevent crashes...)

Anyhow, I've tried to soft reset, but every time the "DataMgr.c Line: 9524, Index out of range" screen pops up. I tried to warm reset and got through (now I can turn off my NX80 as well), deleted NF 3.1, but still nothing. I even tried a hard reset which brought my NX80 back to life but then when I tried to restore a backup with MS Backup, after it finished and soft reset, the crash pops up again!!! I'm fairly new to the PDA scene so I'm really out of ideas...

I'm sweating bullets here guys - if anyone can help me restore my NX80 to its state before my install attempt it would be GREATLY appreciated!!! =(

You should just do a hard reset then sync with your desktop computer. It should restore all your original databases and programs prior to the installation of NetFront3.1.

To put it simply, if you did a MS backup with corrupted files on your NX, when you do a hard reset then use MS backup to restore everything you're gonna just reinstall all your problems. My suggestion is to do a hard reset then individually reinstall your apps one by one. Other than that I can't help ya as I don't use any of those fancy, memory hogging launchers. ;)

So you think it's something in my backup that's causing the error? The last MS backup I made was right before I installed NF 3.1, and NF 3.1 was the original cause of the error.

Hmm. Not sure then. But the hard reset, re installing everything one-by-one can't go wrong.

Don't forget that during the course of a normal HotSync, your Clie backs up files as well. Even if you do a hard reset and don't restore from the backup file on your MS, when you sync for the first time your PC is going to try and restore as many files as it can. I would suggest going into the backup file on your PC and removing NF3.1 manually before you sync. See the comment I posted in the NZ forum for more information on how to do this.

The thing is, I never did a back up with NF 3.1 installed. My latest MS backup was prior to installing NF 3.1.

That may be so, but if you HotSync'd at all after you installed NF3.1, it will be restored to your Clie when you re-sync after a hard reset. The HotSync backup (which is only partial) works independently from MS Backup.

Nope, I never HotSync'd after NF 3.1 was installed. Any other suggestions?

Just a suggestion...but it may be that the crash is only coincidently related to the NF 3.1 install. You may have had a corrupted file before you installed NF 3.1. If you did not mess with the ROM, I would think your CLIE should work fine after the hard reset.

I would do a hard reset and reinstall any 3rd party software fresh and then reinstall your most important databases (e.g., address, datebook) from you backup one by one. Once you get a working CLIE, make a separate backup.

Good luck.

Could someone please send me the application in question. I would greatly appreciate it, I've checked everywhere!.
