I recently bought an nx60 and installed missingsync 3.0.4 palm desktop 4.0 (running OSX 10.2.4). Problem is that after install, "USB" disappears from the connections setting list in the Hotsync application. I snooped into the Library/Applciation Support/PalmHotsync folder and discovered that the USB transport file "looks like" a folder and not like the other Hotsync transport files. I emailed Mark/Space support 5 days ago without a response. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

A couple of extra notes/clues: I actually downgraded to OSX 10.2.3 (archive and install) and uninstalled and reinstalled Palm Desktop and MissingSync - but the same problem appears.

Another note. I had MissingSync 2 when I used to sync in OS9, so I bought the upgrade. Is there a difference between installers that could cause it to punk out on me?

Thanks in advance for your help

Patrick

Hi, I can recommend the following (repair permissions)

1. Insert Disk 1 of your Install Mac OS X CD, and then while holding down the C key, restart your computer.
2. From the Installer menu, choose Open Disk Utility.
3. Click on the First Aid tab.
4. Select your disk, and then click the Repair Permissions button. Note: This can take several minutes to complete.
5. Once the repair is completed, then from the Open Disk Utility menu, choose Quit.
6. Quit the Installer.

If this does not work, try creating a new admin account in System Prefernces. Then try using the software.

Good Luck!

Thank you for your assistance. I want to share how I solved my problem as it may help others who encounter a similar difficulty. My main problem seemed to stem from the fact that the 3.0.4 installer left the USB hotsync transporter unusable.

I uninstalled the Palm desktop and ran Apple's Disk Utility to repair permissions. I reinstalled the Missing Sync installer (3.0.4). The USB hotsync transport file still did not work, so I repaired permissions again. No luck. I installed the 3.0.5 beta updater and voila! the USB transport file looked "right" again and hotsync works like a charm.

I had previously tried the 3.0.5 beta updater before repairing permissions without any success. Repairing permissions was crucial, however, I suspect that I could have done it only once and all would have been fine, but I am not sure at what point in the installation it would have mattered.

Given that I never play with permissions, this seems to be a side effect of installing system updates. I sure hop a future system update from Apple rids us of the need to manually repair permissions that it broke in the first place.

Cheers
