View Full Version : info re Jackflash/sprat and other ways to free memory..
I've been reading through the forums and have seen info about ways to free up memory by removing the built in stuff. I use Datebk4 and would love to get rid of the regular datebook. Also, I use several medical programs that can't be moved to memory stick (they have the lock icon). Is there a program that identifies "orphan" stuff that may have gone with something now deleted? Saw a thread about that but can't seem to find it again... Thanks for any suggestions, Diane

Many users swear by JackSprat/JackFlash. But, if you are not very careful, you can destroy your ROM. I am still a bit leery of fiddling around with the ROM of my Clie and have stayed away from these apps..
You did not mention which Clie you use or the Palm OS version. If you are still in Palm OS 4.x world, I would recommend that you try PiDirect II first. Some of those medical databases might work on MS with this outstanding app. PiDirect is a memory manager that makes the Clie think that apps and databases that are stored in the /Palm/PiDirect folder on the MS are in RAM.
This app was extremely useful a year or so ago because many applications did not recognize or access external storage cards. In this scenario, I could store a database app and all the databases on the MS, freeing up a lot of RAM. Today, it is still useful because I can synch documenst, spreadsheets and Avantgo with the applications under the control of PiDirect. If you put, for example, Wordsmith in the /Palm/Launcher directory, it will not synch with the desktop.
My N610 is currently running with 1.5 MB free RAM using PiDirect II.

I've used the Jack* apps for several years. On 4 different PDAs. Never once did I have any issues, and I don't think, if the directions are followed (including backups, etc.) you will either.
The Datebook app in ROM can be deleted and everything will still work just fine. Your datebook database is what contains your info.
GOOD LUCK!

1) Restore your ROM from the backup you made (you did make a backup, right) by copying all the files into RAM and tap on the FlashWrite app that appears.
2) Wait a couple of minutes.
3) Voila! Memopad is back!!
4) Use JackSprat to remove apps you don't want from Flash.

Then you can't have memopad back.
You can try emailing Brayder to see if they can help.
