View Full Version : Sorry to ask :)

I HAVE looked through the previous threads about screen protectors. I am very sorry to post a question people have already asked, but if someone could just help me find a good screen protector, I would be very happy. I am having difficulty finding one.

My main requirment is clarity. I want it to be clear, or if possiable, to not be able to tell it is on without feeling it.

I don't want it to be too textured. I like the smooth feel of the screen as it is. A little grip would be ok, but not bumpy.

I had a screen protector years ago (4-5) and let me say it was HORRIABLE. Bubbles got trapped under the thing, it was very difficult to apply, and worst of all, it had RIDGES on the protector. Sort of like the ridges you see on those plastic hologram cards, only slightly larger. I would prefer not to have this type of screen protector :).

Again, sorry for posting, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without doubt, get www.pdascreenprotectors.com Screen Protector, clear, no bubbles, not sticky, easy to install, tough wearing,

you will not even know you have it on.

Is that the G2? I have heard the name before....

Also it shows a picture of a T415...I am assuming it fits the T665c also?

One last question :)

How long are you supposed to keep them on for, before putting on a new one?

Thanks

I use Companionlinks from www.freescreenprotectors.com . They work great, are very transparent, and last months each. Can't beat them for the price (not really free, but $5.95 for $12--a great deal).

The one Tanker_bob (no relation) :) suggests is sticky, so if you touch the underside or get dust / air bubble in there, it will look terrible, the one I suggest is not sticky and the support from them is excellent, even after you have parted with your cash and got the goods, also completely clear durable and feels like the original screen,

and we both have T675C :) T_b you should try the G2 you will not go back to your old protectors.

Ah, but the G2 wedges under the case at screen edge, sometimes casuing strange malfunctions from parts touching that shouldn't. No wedging for me, thanks. ;)

Anyone try the Sony screen protector? Hows it like?

I'm with you on the wedging part. Makes me talk funny.

My wife purchased a pack of the Fellowes Screen protectors when she got me my 615c. They are little hazy but durable. You do have to take extra precautions to avoid dust and bubbles. And even if you do get a couple of small bubbles they usually disappear after a day or so.

There needs to be a way people can get just one of each they would like to try and base their decision on preference.

Does the G2 move around on the screen, or is it firmly in place?

And what malfunctions have you had with it?

Thanks

I just have to jump in and strongly recommend the Brando. You can get them here through Global Source. I have been using one since I first got my NR. Now it is on the NX and after washing it it still looks brand new.

I agree. I never used a screen protector until I purchased my T665 - after reading all the threads about them I thought I would give them a try. The Brando is clear and I had it on in less than a minute. Also let me say I purchased it right here at ClieSource and the service was superb! :)

Is the Brando a sticky type protector?

And is it REALLY clear? ;)

Yes, the Brando is sticky. It makes it VERY easy to install.

It is also as clear a protector as I have ever used. I love the very *slight* texture to it, it's like writing on real paper. And the anti-glare properties are awesome if you ever use your Clie outside.

This was a response to this question back when I had a M505 and was watching the Palm M505 posting on another site. Use it for reference.

Screen Protector

Here's my experience with this idea. I've been using the Walmart clear vinyl for about 3 years now... with my V, IIIc and now with my m505.

I don't know what the specific grades are but our Walmart here sells 3 grades. I only buy a foot worth to really save money. First I tried the thinnist one but it seemed to get too many air bubbles that were really hard to get out. And it was really hard to put on the screen because it was so soft that it kept flopping all over the place.

Next I tried the thickest one and it was really easy to put on. Since it was so thick it didn't flop around and there were hardly any bubbles to have to remove. The bubbles that were there were easily removed. The graffiti recognition was fine but it just felt awkward having such a thick barrier on the screen.

I then tried the medium grade and it was perfect. It was still easy to put on because it was thick enough not to flop around. A few more bubbles than the thickest grade but still easy to get out. Graffiti recognition is flawless. I usually use a credit card to smooth out the bubbles but sometimes that scratches the plastic if there are burrs on the edge of the card. I never thought of trying business cards. I'll have to try that out.

As far as replacement, I replace the plastic whenever the graffiti area gets cloudy from all my writing. It usually takes about 4 months or so to get that way. The plastic is still good but I just replace it for looks.

Here's how I measure my protectors: I had some old palmV writerights left over (since I didn't like how they made the screen look). I stuck the V writeright on a manila folder and cut around it to make a stencil. I made two of these stencils which I store for future uses. I line up one stencil above the plastic vinyl and one stencil below the plastic. I make sure they are perfectly lined up on each other and pinch or hold them together very tightly as I cut the plastic around the stencils with a scissors. It comes out perfect every time and is so quick and easy.

Bollocks just get some clingwrap and wrap your whole Clie up

Hmm...

Thanks again everyone for your responsivness.

Anyway, I'm almost done choosing (really, I almost am :)) but I would just like to know, does anyone use NuShields? Are they REALLY clear? and is there a lot of glare?

Thanks again

Oh, by the way, what in the world are "Newton Rings"? I have heard of it but haven't the slightest idea of what it is.

Just to add to the mix, you may want to consider Luminector screen protectors. They are very clear, easy to install and illuminate the graffiti and silk screen areas in the dark (hence the name). It takes awhile for them to arrive (mine took ~ 5 weeks), but last a long time (4 months and counting for the first one, so far).

Thanks grj49a.

Does ANYONE know what a "Newton Ring" is? Some screen protector websites say their one won't cause it.

No idea WHAT it is that it might cause though....

I believe newton rings was one of the topics in my applied optics exam at the university, but I forgot what they were actually about... I believe they were caused by two surfaces on top of each other, but leaving some space between them :p

Ah, a quick search on the internet reveals much:
http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/faq/rings.shtml

I have the Brando on my SJ30. I like the surface, it's like writing on paper. I dislike the fact that it is not 100% clear, you'll have to crank up the brightness setting a bit.

My next protector is going to be the G2. I like the Brando, but it's a quest to perfection, which I hope I will find in the G2.

My wife got some nushields for her nr70v, and I cut one down to fit my t-615.

Been in place for 6 months now, and still going strong.

(I prefer the tight fit of a wedgie, as I've heard horror stories of stickies damaging the screen when you try to remove them, but I never heard a wedgie horror story. Well, not when it comes to PDA's, that is...:D
