View Full Version : Another Agendus Question

For if and when JackFlash $ Jacksprat come out for OS5 support, I would like to delete the OEM "Datebook" and put Agendus into ROM. Is it possible? And what file(s) can I delete and can't delete? Same goes with OEM "To Do List" and "Address". Also I would like to put powerOne calculator too.

Thank you in advance

I don't know about putting Agendus in ROM, although I don't know why not, but I suggest that you hang on to the default apps. Since Agendus uses the built-in databases, it's nice to be able to see them in "raw" format.

Plus, there may be options that Agendus doesn't implement. For example, in the default Address book, you can rename the custom fields. This is valuable if you use something like Happy Days. Agendus doesn not provide this feature.

Note that moving an app to ROM doesn't buy you performance, it simply means that you're making use of space that might otherwise be wasted. Plus, you don't have to reload the app on a hard reset.

Doesn't Agendus state that it needs the built in datebook as its base for information and can't run without it? There's a big warning in the manual NOT to delete the datebook app.

I couldn't find any mention of it in the current manual (version 6) - where did you see it? Regardless, you certainly wouldn't want to delete the datebook database. Agendus uses the databases from the built-in apps. It doesn't use the apps themselves. So theoretically you could delete the Datebook app but leave the datebook database. Even so, I strongly recommend against that for reasons I gave in my prior post.

Well, I misremembered, I don't see a specific note that says "do not delete datebook", however, on P36 of the manual it says:

"Agendus does not create its own data files. . . " . . . So without datebook, to-do or address book, it seems to me there would be no way for Agendus to function??

I have a T615 and put Agendus into the Flash using the Jacks, and while I was at it I removed the ToDo app, the Datebook app and the Address app, but I left their databases.  I left the Memo app because Agendus doesn't directly refer to the Memo database.  I sync at work with Palm Desktop, and at home with Outlook (via intellisyc) and haven't noticed any problems at all.  I don't need to rename my custom fields, so that hasn't been an issue at all.  I did do a back up as JackSprat recommended so I have the apps if I ever need to refer to them.

The other day I was forced to hard reset and thought it was great, I turned it on and there was agendus.  I had to put in my reg code again but it was so nice, IMHO.

I though that Agendus Share "Datebook, to-da, and address" database. Not applications. So I was thinking I could delete the apps from ROM and install Agendus instrad of OEMs. But as Bob said, some feature might not work with add-ons... I'll do some more research on it before I do anythings. I think I could save all of ROM in an image with JackFlash $ Jacksprat, so I can test it out. (once it support OS5 that is...)

Kal:
Did you install icons on ROM too? or did you left it in RAM...

I don't know how much free ROM is available, but it seems to me that if you're leaving the built-in apps in RAM so you can put Agendus in ROM - why bother. Performance will be the same. You'll have Agendus in ROM after a hard reset, but you'll have to reload to get your data anyway. On my T665, address is 102K, Datebook is 132K, and ToDo is 46K. That's 280K.

And if you ever have to re-create your address, datebook, or todo databases, you'll need the original apps.

My recommendation, for what it's worth, is leave the basic built-in apps in ROM. Put Agendus in ROM if you can, but leave the built-in apps alone.

Kal - am delighted to see a post from someone who's actually deleted those apps and isn't having trouble syncing with outlook. ..lot better than theorizing about whether it can or can't be done. . . I'm glad to see that option is available.

I actually didn't leave the built in apps in RAM either, I made a back up of my flash, containing the built in apps before I touched it and stored it on my memory stick.  Then I deleted the built in apps all together and then loaded Agendus 6 to my flash.  In the end I saved 4 megs of space from my RAM by putting stuff into flash and deleting all these Clie programs I don't use.

As for the icons, I didn't put them in the flash, was worried that Agendus wouldn't see them or something, and I tend to have so many problems with the icon sets (all user error I am sure) that once I get a set up I like, I don't touch them and make sure that if I reinstall Agendus I don't add the icons.

Cool! Now all I have to do is wait for JackFlash $ Jacksprat to come out... Thanks Kel, for your help.

Just wanted to chime in: I'm running Agendus 6.0 on my Clie 610C, and have no troubles at all after deleting the DateBook, ToDo and Address Book applications. Again, it's very important not to touch the databases themselves. After doing the JackSprat/JackFlash shuffle, the original app I have left is the MemoPad. Not a problem.
I'm not a big icon user, but I imagine for optimum performance, they'd have to stay in RAM. That's a guess, though.

Just to let you know it can be done, and it's very easy.
