TH55 assigning buttons?

can the 4 buttons on the bottom of the TH55 be assigned to different applications or not?

Yes, in the same way as on all other Palm OS devices. Go to a launcher, run the Prefs app, and choose the Buttons drop-down, then choose which app you want associated with which button. Note that you can't change the 4th hardware button without using TheGoGo.
