Wow, you got a TH!! Congrats.
As for the pixel, I would take it back now if it bothers you. Even if it unsticks, it could come back later.

Send it back I have rarely known a stuck Pixel to come back from the dead. And on the rare occasion that it does it won't last. don't chance it.

Now that is torture ... finally getting the TH-55, charging it, waiting in anticipation to play with it only to discover a single bad pixel and then wondering whether or not to send it back without having had much play time. Wow! At least it's the weekend. You've got till monday morning to decide and play. I would send it back if it's not too much hassle and you can wait for the replacement. Bummer! It is worth it though. Love the TH-55.

I've got a bad pixel, but it's not too bad. It doesn't go completely white, but since I'm colorblind anyways it's hard to notice unless I stare straight at it. It turns dark fine.

Haha, Andy I always have one bad pixel. But it only shows up against black, and its on the far left edge (not in VG area, luckily), so I very rarely see it.
If it bothers you send it back, if it doesn't then don't.

Yeah, I had a burnt in pixel, I could only see it on black. But then the screen cracked and I haven't had any problems since. ;)

Hey Ben, just a tip. You need to sign in in order to avoid posting as guest. Putting in your username and password while posting doesn't work for some reason; it still thinks you're a guest.

If it bothers you send it back, if it doesn't then don't. Yeah, this one only shows up against black, but it's in the VG area, so it shows up . . . when VG's minimized it's ok. It's just weird, is all. Of course, since I use the davinci color scheme in PalmReader to read in bed, it shows there too.
*sigh*
I'll probably return it.

Yeah, I would return it. After paying 400 dollars on something and then not having it display right, I would be a little upset. I mean I understand that these things happen, but it's still frustrating.

Mine has a stuck on red pixel way near the bottom, I didn't notice it till I searched hard for stuck pixels - I thought it was a piece of tiny red dust. Not worth returning, everything else on this unit is great.

Good Evening, YellowRose-
You say you took it back and exchanged it? From where did you purchase your device? Was this exchange made under the auspices of an extended warranty or was this a 14-day return deal? Did the merchant give you any grief?

I paid full price at Circuit City. It was under the 14 day return (purchased this past Saturday), and I showed them the stuck pixel and they switched it with no hassle.
The worst part of the whole thing was waiting ANOTHER 5 hours for the thing to charge. :D

Okay, I need some advice. I just received my brand new TH55 from BestBuy.com yesterday (same day Sony says that the Clie is dead). My TH55 has a pixel in the top-left part of the screen that is stuck on white. I only notice it with dark backgrounds (and the initial Clie intro screen when I first started my fully charged Clie that I didn't touch for five hours while it charged :( ) Should I attempt the Best Buy return maze before they are all gone, or be satisfied with my new/discontinued TH55?

With the end of the Clie, you may be using that TH for a long time. I lived with a bad pixel on my NX80, but it was invisible almost all the time. If I had one that was brand new and I knew it would have to last a while, I'd take it back for a perfect one while I had the chance.

In my experience, a stuck pixel can always be rubbed out. I dont think this applies to PDAs though because the touchscreen is so thick.. I hope that.....WHOEVER MAKES MY NEXT PDA *sobs* will use that new flexable thin touchscreen in conjunction with an OLED screen (not roll-up, thanks), much harder to break from dropping.

Can you live with it? Does it disturb you 'just knowing'? If yes, the you should probably return it . . . like I did. If not, well . . . don't worry, be happy. :D :)

Boo hoo... I just got my TH55/E from Expansys USA and discovered that it has a dead pixel near the center of the screen. I do alot of mobile graphics work with my PDA's, so this is really unacceptable. I hope Expansys can exchange it with another unit. Last time I checked their site though, the availability of the /E model was 10 days. :(
Got a dead pixel too :( But it doesnt really bother me too much. Already gone through two TH55s (my first US one didnt have bluetooth). Its there only on dark backgrounds and comes up as a red dot.
Just out of curiosity, will this 'fault' be covered by the Sony warranty, as in if I took it back, could I get a replacement? Or will it be a case of having to send it to Sony and wait for weeks for it to be returned?
Cheers,
Atik

If you purchased it at a 'bricks and mortar' store . . . then chances are VERY good you can exchange it.
Good Luck!

If you read the manual you will see that Sony only guarentees 99.9% of the LCD. It is the nature of LCDs to have at least on dead pixle, nothing really n e one (including Sony) can do about it.

Hi,
I am part of the "dead pixel" branch of the TH55 family as well. Mine is kind of teal colored, and at the very bottom of the VG area. Unfortunately, I have to live with it. I bought my device from an online shopping mall, and upon contacting them wa stold that they have set a limit of 13 dead pixels for exchanges.
Why 13? Who knows.
I thought this would bug the heck out of me, but really, its something that I rarely notice.
To be honest, my dead pixel doesnt bother me one bit.
I love my TH, and a small blemish such as this makes no difference ;)
I did buy the item from a 'proper' high street shop and have the receipt, so taking it back wouldnt be a problem, but it is too much hassle for just one pixel.

Yeah, I have a stuck pixel too. It's sort of bluish, and on the middle left of my screen. I only notice it when the screen is black in that area, and for most of my apps, it dissappears. Everything else works fine, so I didn't bother returning it.
Plus, if I ever have to identify my PDA in a line up, I can tell which one is mine... :D ;)

My post from another thread:
This may be bad, but... Go to Office Depot, Circuit City, etc and buy a TH-55. Take the bad one back the next day. I usually say something like "No I don't want to exchange. I only give purchases like this one chance. I'll try Palm" or something lame like that. It works and I figure it all goes back to Sony anyway. In fact, I'm on my way to do that now. Got a stuck pixel on mine
PS on a laptop or LCD panel, sometimes steady tapping w/ light to medium force behind the pixel will unstick it. So far, I'm 4 for 4 with this method (though the Clie may break my record ).
