MS Backup issue when changing TG50's

Well I finnaly replaced my TG-50 but i'm havin an "issue". My most recent backup is on my memstick, and upon doing an MS backup restore it says "the specified backup is not for this device".

Well I realize that, but that's the whole point of the backup! It's the same thing, a TG50, but the serial numbers or whatever probobly dont' match.

anyone know of a way to MAKE it work or force it? Or can I just copy the contents of the backup folder on the STICK to the CLIE???

Try this first:

and if it doesn't work, use Clie Files, select your backup (in MSBackup directory) and bring back your data. I suggest to stay on the safe side, and select only AddressDB, ToDoDB and DateDB.

I went ahead and just copied all the data from the MSBACKUP directory to my PC, then added it to my hotsync list, which pulled all the data back down. I don't htink everything worked right away but it seems to have gotten most of it back! And thanks to Zlauncher's abilty to recreate shortcuts I think I'm almost fully operational again. yay!

Here is another way around this problem:
Take your MS with old backup file on it, do hard reset on Clie, then create a new backup file (don't touch the old one!). Once that is done, connect Clie to your PC via MSImport, then go to:
palm/programs/MSBackup/
You will see two or more folders, depending on how many backup files you had. (if you had more than one backup file on that MS, you might want to check folder number prior to creating a new backup, to avoid confusion)
Now, copy the content of your old backup folder into your new backup folder. Select Yes to All when prompted if you want to overwrite files.
Once that is done, disconnect from PC, and perform Restore from your "new" backup (that now contains all the content of your old one).

Note: This solution was a combination of an educated guess, and a bit of luck on my side. If you'll decide to give it a try, make sure to let us know the results. (I'm just curious if there are any problems that arise from this method) Have fun!
