To Anyone with the Knowledge:
I won't bore you too much, accept to say that I've been a PocketPC user for the past 6 years and it would take a lot to drive me away. Well, that may just have come in the form of the new Clie PEG-NZ90.
1) What is your overall opinion of this machine (yes, I would be using the camera function)?
2) Also, I noticed different memory sticks - regular and "memory gate" - what is the difference?
3) Lastly, and most importantly... I am tired of all handheld manufactures bring out devices without competent accessories at launch. I wrote an article for Pocket PC news last summer on the Audiovox Thera and it's still the same gripe. Sprint has a CF modem, but it doesn't have Palm drivers. So, I guess there is no way to go wireless with it. Well, I picked up the Sony T68i Bluetooth phone and was wondering if my logic is correct since the new Clie is Bluetooth, that I could just use the phone as the modem?
Your insight is appreciated and I will gladly contribute to your site any time you ask.
Sincerely,
beast@vzavenue.net

I just purchased the NZ90 and am about to do just that.
Get a T68i and use it as a modem, unfortunately T-Mobile 3G is not up yet, (USA) so speeds are limited to 20k upload and 56k downloads. not bad for text, but 2megapixel jpegs is a little heavy for that.
Great hardware and great camera. Amazing screen and the Picsel viewer is incredible.
Down side, while Picsel can view word,PDF,Exell etc.. it can't edit them. In fact nothing on palm can, everything must get converted first on your desktop then synced as a palm equivalent. that is very week. Thanks to Picsel at least someone can send you a word file in email and you could at least view it.
Data viz, makers of Documents to Go, the leading "converting" docs and sync software just made an announcement
http://www.dataviz.com/news/press/pressreleases/Detail.html?id=83
they say by summer their apps will read and write native MS files without conversion.
so once that is in place, T-Mobile is 3G, and Picsel releases their Email and Web browser for Clie, I will be happy!
Good luck

1) I switched and I was a pocketpc as long or longer than you. Camera was a bonus.if youre planning to use it alot, get extra battery. It'll eat it for lunch in no time. example: 65% power. I took one shot without flash and power went to below 35% so now I can['t take pictures with flash (35% is cutoff point) once I stopped using the camera, battery went up to 50%.
2) Memory stick is memory stick. The "Gate" version is for songs with encryption for protection from being copied. some mp3 players uses that.
3) I use sms and my t68i but runs into some problems, but work 95% of the time.

So, the bottom line is you think it was a good switch? The seems really lame about the battery after one or two shots - especially for $800.00.

You know what, I had some problems with my battery, went to my retailer and he exchanged my battery with one that was in the display model and now it rocks!
I took 40 hires pictures with the flash last night, then ran the movie player for 2 hours straight, and still had to play games on it until 3:00 am just to try and drain the battery!!
I think It has to do with how you start your battery off. It is a smart battery as they say, so maybe it has to be properly trained.
The dealer toled my he did a full drain then a 12hr charge no interuptions. I bet you any money, myself included there are no NZ owners that could wait the 12 hours to use their CLIE!!

So I guess you feel it's worth it?
The last concern is for email/web. I can't believe there is a wireless provider with a CF modem that works with the Palm. Sprint has one that works only on PPC. Going back to 56k/14.4k is going to hurt.
I just bought the T68i last night - I sure hope it was a smart choice.

please keep me posted on your success with that. My cellular contract doesn't end for another 2 months, so I have to wait until then to switch over to T-Mobile (or my wife will clie me!)
Email app and web app on clie suck. good new is there are 3rd party software for everything, and I just pray that somehow Picsel releases their email and web browser software to clie owners as an upgrade!

Well, when I used to have the Kyrocera 6035 and Samsung I-300, Eudora was good enough, but couldn't open attachments.
That's the one thing I loved about my PocketPC - I could get them and open then right up - including WAV files sent from my voicemail.
Any ideas here?
As for TMobile - they have some really cheap plans - I was suprised.

It looks like snappermail is the way to go. It does it all, it's a fat mail client so It works just like your destop email. Downside is curently only works in 320x320, it will work on hires+ just forces the silk screen to be visible.
It comes with it's own pkzip utility and jgviewer and has the ability to send attachements to any app that is registered on system and comes back to snapper mail after viewing.
