I have a Clie PEG-NX70V which has only 16 MB of RAM. I bought a memory stick for 128 MB but didn't help me a lot. I am a Doctor and need a lot of space for variety of medical applications. These Apps. have lock symbol attached to them and cannot be used on expansion card. My PDA's memory is full after 2-3 applications. I bought Z-launcher thinking it will help me utilize the card more efficintly but didn't help. Actually it occupied space.
Any ideas on how to expand the memory capacity, short of buying another PDA with large RAM space?
Thanks,
J.Y.

powerrun will allow you to move apps and their databases to memory stick, even locked ones.

jackflash also alows you to stock apps in the unoccupied flash rom of the clié. I use both, powerrun is slower but offers more space than jackflash...

Some aps aren't working fine when used with those programs, but so far i have only a 52Kb app in the ram :)

utilize your cf slot. A 3rd party developer made cf drivers. Put a 512mb cf card in your clie and youll be all set. Also try the sandisk memoerystick select, it has 2 128mb chips in one stick.

Jyacoub, did your apps not work from the memory stick, or were you not able to move them there?

Zlauncher HAS that powerrun feature built in... really, your apps could NOT BE MOVED to the card?

Need to learn how to use ZLauncher's ability to move applications to your Memory Stick then. In addition I suggest JackFlash as I have the same device and use the ZL/JackFlash combo to the max.:)

Most of the time such statements about ZL are user error. It is complex and takes a minute to figure out, but it does one hell of a job.

Do people think the next generation to replace the UX50 and the NX70V will have decent memory, or is that just a pipe dream?

Well if you look here you can see the trend though I'm not sure beyond these what will happen. http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44728

I believe they now have the capacity to go up to 128mb of RAM.

Stange solution, spend more money rather than find a solution. Ironic and interesting.:)

Most important question is...do any of the applications that are filling up your RAM need to be hotsynced to your PC? If not, there are several possible solutions. If you need to have the ability to hotsync these apps with the desktop, there are fewer solutions.

Assume you do not have to sync apps and databases to the desktop. ZLauncher offers you two ways to move apps to the MS. One is simply to move the app itself to MS to the /Palm/Launcher directory. This is a standard option. The second way is to move the app AND all the associated databases to the /Palm/Programs/ALauncher/Apps/{name of app your are moving]. this is also a standard ZL feature. It will move the app and all DBs to MS freeing up quite a bit of RAM. The launch of the application is a little slower as AL must move the app and DBs to RAM for you to use. When you close the app, everything will be moved back to the MS. This is the PowerRun-like feature.

I do not know how much available Flash Rom is on your unit, but Brayder's JackFlash can use this space. In essence, anything moved to Flash will act just like it was in RAM. You cannot, however, move modifiable databases to Flash. This is bad to move something that is changed as it will result in death defying consequences fixed only by a hard reset. But, any app that works in Flash RAM can sync to the desktop.

Download FileZ, it will allow you to copy those programs over to a memory stick to run them, and it's also free (always a plus). I used this to move several of my programs to my memory stick and so far they all work great. Most the programs will still store files on the devices RAM but that's usually a miniscule amount of space (and if a program requires large files they usually allow you to save to an expansion card of some sort).

FileZ also allows you to remove the lock
