Clie is expensive. At the price of a Clie T665, I can buy a low-end pocket pc, for instance Toshiba E330. The size of E330 is not
very much bigger but performance is much better.
So why a Clie?

Use both - buy what works for you. I have had a PPC (pocket PC) and found it harder to use, so I switched to the palm. Some PPCrs consider the palms low tech - and depending on what you are using them for a PPC might be what you need.

I suggest going to a CompUSA or such and trying them out - using it for what your going to use it for. For instance if your all about multimedia (watching movies and such) a PPC would probably be a better device - you can toss a microdrive in it and put full movies on it. Something that can be done with the Clie but definitely not for the faint of heart.....and much more time consuming.

However, in my opinion, for everyday scheduling and such I find the palm to be a better device - buy what you need. Another consideration is that very few PPC programs are freeware where as you can find a palm OS program to do almost anything for free. So if you do buy a PPC be prepared to spend a little cash on programs.

Well, most of us don't believe that any pocket pc can match the performance of a palm os device. I'll let others explain, since they can tell you why better than I can (or I'm just too lazy to get into the whole thing).

Well, you may be correct but the sad truth is that there are some things that cant be done with a Clie that can be done with a PPC - the same goes for the other way around. Just depends on what you want to do with it.

If you are really into DOOM and such graphic intensive games and you want to be able to play them on your device a palm isnt going to do you any good (atleast not right now anyway). The palm games are catching up but they arent quite there yet. However if you want reliable alternative to a notebook for taking notes, scheduling, picture viewing etc. then I would say you need a palm.

You all have to realize that by the first quarter of 2004, things will change. With OS6 devices, having more memory and the same hardware, it will be difficult to say which is better PPC or PalmOS. By that time it will be a choice of OS.

What do you want? A pocket-sized computer with all the benefits and problems of a computer (better graphics, slower response, Microsoft compatability, more commands to wade through to accomplish most tasks, etc.) or basically an extended electronic day planner?

Palms are generally faster, more stable, easier to master, and have more software available, but Pocket PCs are catching up. In the next few years, there may not be a difference any more.

I DO think it is interesting that most Palm devices are now aiming at the lower end markets- generally, they can offer more functinality for lower costs than PPCs can so far- but that is changing as well.
