Does anyone else's TH55 crash when pressing home to exit from picsel viewer? The third-party software I have installed are:

THe Go Go!
Fonts4OS5
Pocket Tunes
Okey
ZLauncher
MegaCalc
Conversions to Go

it's Okey. I've tested it so try disabling it to make sure.

That fixed it. Thanks for the tip.

Also make sure you have TheGoGO version 1.15 or later to speed up the Picsel loading. Also if you use G1 and CrossingOver, the load time goes from about 7 sec to >20sec.

Hmmm, I don't have OKey, and I'm getting this same crash now too. I have both TheGoGo and Fonts4OS5 installed.

Is that all you have installed? Also try using default font in Font4OS5 for the Picsel.

I also have:

AI Pro
Audible
Avantgo
HandyShopper
HappyDays
Mapopolis
Metro
PalmReader
PocketTunes
Snapper
TuSSH
VeriChat
VFSFTP+
Win-Hand

I did try setting default font for Picsel.

I briefly remember the picsel viewer crashing after I turn off my TH55 without exiting the picsel viewer, or exiting the picsel viewer without waiting for the doc to load.

But then again, my Clie was acting wierdly for a while before I sent it in for repair

cheers

It was crashing whether or not the document was finished loading...

I meant in terms of hack apps. Since only thing I have installed from that list is Palmreader, I can't comment further on your situation other than the good old method of re-installing one by one to see what's causing the problem (you probably knew that already).;)

Nope, no more hack apps. I guess at this point I'm too lazy to re-install my Palm. I just reformatted two of my computers, and I've had enough of that for a while. :p

I hear ya. I had to re-do the computer at my office and one at home. Pain in the arse. That program isn't as useful as I thought it would be. I was actually excited to use it until I got the chance to use it. Now, I rarely use it.

What do you use instead? I tried Repligo, but didn't like the idea of having to convert things first. I also like the stylus shortcuts in Picsel (drag to pan, double tap and up/down to zoom, double tap and left/right to zoom box, etc.).

I'm going to post my error message in a second, too.

Hmmm, just a generic Fatal Exception. It's odd that the font on the Error message doesn't show up unless I completely deactivate Fonts4OS5. Simply changing the font for Picsel to Default doesn't seem to be working.

How curious. Seems that FitalyVirtual was causing the problem. I totally forgot about that "hack". Looks like I'll be tossing it out.

On another note, having Fonts4OS5 installed slows down Picsel Viewer like no other. Does anyone have this problem? It doesn't matter which font I have PicselViewer set to; if Fonts4OS5 is enabled at all, Picsel takes forever to load a GIF that would otherwise take one second.

Ah, I'm going crazy here. It works with FitalyStamp but no Fonts4OS5 now. Okay okay, no more posts until I've got more of my stuff together. :-p

I just don't have much use for a document viewer so whenever I need it, I just use the Picsel. I've also noticed the dramatic slowdown on the load time for Picsel aftering installing Font4OS5.

Yeah, both program load time and document load time are affected.

I disable both Fonts4OS5 and OKey before going into Piscel and then it's speedy. Kind of a pain in the butt, but I essentially never use Piscel, so it's not that big of a deal.

What do you use for document viewing then?

Docs2Go can handle Word & Excel files that I get via email, and for any file that I have on my PC and want to move to my Clie, I just use Repligo. I can't stand the Piscel interface - takes to long to be able to read anything.

Yeah... Picsel Viewer on my SigIII is sweet, but it's not very good on the TH55. That's so weird considering it's made by the same company. :/

I like how Picsel doesn't require conversion, and the interface with zooming, etc., is great!

Days ago, I did some tests in Taiwan's forum.
http://forum.palmislife.com/viewthread.php?tid=27311&fpage=1&highlight=picsel%2Bviewer

Summary:

Programs that will make PV crash/hang (and also slow I guess):
- TealmMaster
- NewPen
- DefaultSilk

Programs that will make PV slow
- CaseToggle: 10.5
- CodeDiver: 10
- wavAlarms: 9
- CrossingOver: 8
- PenPower: 2
- GraffitiAnywhere: 2
Note:
1. Numbers here are added PV loading seconds when enabled, i.e., (PV loading time when it's enabled) - (PV loading time when it's disabled)
2. Actually, document loading time may be worse.
For example, enableing CodeDiver may increase the time for loading a ppt (completely until the bottom right ball stop rolling) from 34 seconds to 112 seconds (more than 3 times) in my test.

Programs that have no (or very little) impact
CHOS, McPhling, FindHack, YAHM, FontHackV, THeGoGo(with "Disable PV" checked), PowerGuardLite, Capitalizer

Hope this helps and sorry for my poor English.

Note: CHOS, PenPower are Chinese display/input systems.

None of these besides TheGoGo are on my Clie. But thanks for your input!

I had frequent crash with PV too. I was not able to pin point which application is making it crash. Most of the time after a soft reset it is fine if I run PV right away. It will eventually crash after I ran some other programs and then run PV again. I finally found a solution.

Turn off all the grobal "hack" programs e.g. Wordcomplete, CJKOS, theogogo, Zlauncher; set Clie Launcher back to Standard View (don't know if this is necessary. I just do it.)

Do a soft reset.

Run MS Backup to backup to MS.

Do a hard reset to erase everyting.

Restore with MS Backup.

Now my PV won't crash anymore .

I'll give that a shot sometime; at the moment though, disabling Fonts4OS5 seems to be working.

Last Okey app has bugfix "Disable in ARM native apps". PalmOS5 has well known bug, related to crash caused by executing non-native code in native app. Native apps can be written only by palmsource licensee and near to them, like Picsel viewer, Netfront, Decuma, Hotsync.

Modern "hidden" hacks like Okay subscribes to notifications. PalmOS broadcast this notification frequently and receiving it while native app executes cause fatal exception.

Processing non-native code on every frequent notification also slowdown device response time.

Is that all you have installed? Also try using default font in Font4OS5 for the Picsel.
Thanks, That solved my problem.

I don't have any of those softwares and my picsel viewer will still sometimes crash when i open it :(...
