View Full Version : NetFront Installation Problem

Rec'd my new WL100 WiFi Card today, and was excited to try it out.  I have tried to install NetFront, and cannot get it to turn into a runnable program.  What installs is NetFrontv3_inst.prc.  I cannot then find it as an app on the CLIE, cannot run the program, and find this all quite frustrating.

I have been able to have my router recognize my WiFi card, but have not yet been able to sync via the WiFi card either.

I'd really appreciate any assistance on either front.

After installing NetFrontv3_inst, the Clie did a soft reset, which I presume it was supposed to do, but then no further progress toward having an executable web browser.  I have looked with both configurations of the loader (CLIE and normal presentations), and cannot find the program.  I have looked at the contents of the memory with CLIE Files, and I can see that it is there, but cannot make it run. (It's not like Windows Explorer, wherein I can double click on a file to get it to open.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If I remember right, you need at least 3MB free in your internal memory to install Netfront.

I have that and more.  I actually have 2.5 mb of free memory after installing NetFrontv3_inst.

You need 6mb or more free to install it. Most who have stuck with it, got PowerRun v1.2 and moved it to the MS. I hate the program and deleted it! Some users seem to like it and it has some features they need. As far as I am concerned NetFront is crap, but that is my personal opinion:D!

Most also say that by setting the cache to zero mb, the page too large errors were less frequent. In other words, use at your own risk!

OK, I cleared memory to get >6mb free, and the installation went fine. Now, I'll move it to the MS, and should be happy. Have already put CLIE Mail there, and it runs fine. Got the HotSync to work via the card as well. I'm happy!

Might like to look for another browser for the CLIE. Any suggestions??

I'm sure Larry will offer his suggestions :) but NetFront is a pretty good browser for what it does; most other browsers depend on a proxy mechanism which a.) is a security problem and b.)limits access to internet sites.
I think the new PocketLink may offer a "full" browser but you can check it at www.palmgear.com (or others on this board may have tested)

Good going! I have been playing with PocketLink2 and a new update came out the other day. PLink is the only other HiRes+ browser that I am aware of.

I found NetFront terrible for my own general browsing for a variety of reasons. Proxy browsers don't bother me as long as it's eye-pleasing and readable.
