Help please.

My SL10 did a hard reset or my batteries died on me without my knowing. I have lost all files how can i restore from my PC to my Clie. Never had to do this before I guess my files are in the "Backup" directory as they appear to be but how do I get them back on my Clie?

Thanks

All you should have to do is hotsync it. And then the programs that don't get restored just need to be reinstalled.

One thing bad about restoring RAM via HotSync is that you will lose some of your settings and you need to re-enter them including registration codes of the 3rd party apps. If you backup the RAM to MS with MSBackup or other similar backup apps, you'll get the mirror image of your setup at the last backup including the registration codes. It will restore the RAM in less than 2 minutes and you can restore it w/o PC. This is a good way to restore the RAM if you run out of battery again on the road, away from your PC.

DanT - in the user manual (yeah, I actually read this section for some reason) it says something about how MS Backup will backup the Palm applications, which I understood to mean the built-in Palm apps only. However, I have used it and as near as I can tell it backs up and then will restore everything. Do you have any info on this?

Also, a precaution. I once had MS Restore fail (just mucking around, so I didn't really lose anything). I suspect this might be related to hacks or ThinFontFix, so I now turn off my hacks and ThinFontFix prior to doing a backup, and have had no problems since.

On a related subject - I don't suppose there is any way to schedule an automatic backup, is there? Say, wake up my SJ30 at 3:00am each day and do a backup while I'm sleeping?

MSBackup only back up your RAM to MS. You don't have to worry about the ROM apps. They would not be deleted after a dead battery or a hard reset. However, their database (DateBook, Address, etc.) are stored in RAM so you need to back them up.

Unfortunately MSBackup does not do schedule backup. I use BackupBuddy VFS (BBVFS) for backing up my database daily at midnight. The backup data are also encrypted which require a password to restore them back to RAM. I haven't seen any other backup program that can do that.
