Me want to know as well :)
I think I am going to preorder from amazon.co.uk tonight. They say the 11th, but of course we have no idea if it is true.
£269 seems like a good price... is that where you pre ordered yours?
crazyswede
Hi crazyswede,
Yes, i too pre-ordered from amazon. its the best price i've seen around, and one of a hand full of places that actually listed it.

Are you sure Amazon.co.uk are selling a European spec TH55?
Expansys.com are selling an American spec version for roughly the same price, while SonyStyle are selling the European spec one for £300 (£30 more).
I know SonyStyle are normally an expensive option, but I couldn't see any information on Amazon, just a picture. I'd be careful what you're ordering if I were you.

Not thought about that
Sent off an email... but probably won't get an email back until Monday.
The release date they show is the 11th which makes me think that its the European version...

Got a reply..... they did not answer my question... :(
It must be the UK version... they can't sell a US version on a british site without telling us. They can probably get in trouble for that.... probably not
Does the European version include the download of DocsToGo 6 ?
Have ordered one via sonystyle uk, because a friend had a valid voucher - so i was very lucky to get it for 150 pound. Very happy about that because first i opted for the ux50 but this seems a far better machine for me, screenwise, pricewise and especcially moneywise. I have been told by the sonystyle people that it will come with documents to go, as does the US-version.
Unfortunately - sorry to moan and yes this is about appaerance and not the amazing specs - the red version is only released in Japan and the european / american market has to settle for the black. Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to get a japanese red th55, and if it's feasible to replace the palm os by an english version? Thank you
(all though it comes in black, i can't wait to see it)

well yes you could. But check some HongKong sellers they are always over charging for such hot items on ebay and other places of that kind.

You've got me worried about my Amazon order now.
I too have emailed Amazon for clarification of whether or not they are selling the Bluetooth version. Will let you know what they say.
I am currently being quoted delivery of 17-18 March - which feels like ages away

I'm not sure if Amazon.co.uk is even allowed to sell non-European spec products through its UK site and even if it was, it would have to state very clearly on the page that it was a US and not a UK device.

We hope this information is of help. Thank you for shopping at
Amazon.co.uk.
There have now changed the delivery estimates from "preorder" to "1 - 2 weeks", but have not put up any specs
Apologies if the above, rather long Cut & paste is frowned upon on this forum - mods let me know & I will trim it
Just ran a search on amazon.co.uk.
An here's the result.
Sony Clie PEG-TH55 -- (Electronics - Sony - March 11, 2004)
Does that mean they have them in stock now..
When you click in, here's the availablity status.
Availability: usually dispatched within 1 to 2 weeks.
So its anyone's guess. Dont know if its worth asking but, Anyone in the uk have confirmation that their TH55 is shipped or at hand? Either from amazon, expansys, sony or any others.

Amazon won't have it for a while, it seems:
"Unfortunately the release date has now been delayed, and we do not yet have a firm date for availability.
After contacting our suppliers we have been informed that the delay in obtaining this title is due to the fact that the manufacturer have
pushed back the realise date."
But the TH55 is listed as 'in stock' at Micro Anvika (at £299):
http://www.microanvika.com/product.asp?TXT=INFO&PNO=SON15018
I might have a wander down there tomorrow to see if they have it in store. Probably wise not take my wallet though...

Went to micro anvika yesterday and they did not have a release date on the computer but they might have today...
I would rather get it from amazon as it is £30 cheaper... I guess I will have to wait, but I would love to try it at anvika...

I've got mine on pre order at amazon.co.uk and these are the dates they mailed me (yesterday):
Dispatch estimate: March 13, 2004
Delivery estimate: March 15, 2004
So i guess from today's post no one in the uk actually have recieved their uk th55 yet?
urban75; my open order has the exact same details. so i guess we'll have to wait until monday to find out.
fingers cross that it will be here on the 15th.
if i hear more news i'll post them here. like wise if anyone here has up-to-date information please post here too.
It's now March 12th, yet my still-unshipped order at amazon.co.uk continues to have an estimated dispatch date of March 10th, and delivery date of March 11th. So I wouldn't put too much faith in the dates they're quoting right now, I'm afraid.

Dawith2boyz: That's because the exchange rate is currently $1.8: £1, which makes it all the more frustrating that the US model doesn't have BT -- we could pick one up for around £250...
Also, Micro Anvika claim to have TH55's in stock at all stores as of this morning, or at least they did when I called them. I'll pop down to Tottenham Court Road at lunchtime to find out for sure and report back.

Same here :) With the Euro/USD rate I could pick up a US TH55 for about Euro 300,--, but I want bluetooth and therefor ordered it here for Euro 389,--.. That`s a high price for bluetooth ;) But to be fair I would have to add shipping and customs too and then it is not that bad anymore.

I just called Microankiva - they don't price match.
Anyone prepared to pay a 10% premium against Amazon for the sake of a week? (I know I'm sorely tempted, but it would be a complete waste)
Adlopa
03-12-2004, 05:20 AM
That is, of course, presuming that Amazon will have stock by next week -- they doesn't have a confirmed shipping date yet...
I'll be interested to find out if you can get Micro Anvika to match Amazon's price. I've never known them to do it before, and the staff in their shops also refuse to haggle over prices, unlike many of the other shops on Tottenham Court Road (who probably also have TH-55s in stock now, if Micro Anvika have it).
Sitting before me is the th55 uk. Wowowwowo what an amazing looking pda. definitely on of the best looking ones around.
Anyway just got back. And yes Micro Anvika do have them in stock and there is a display model for those who wants a hands-on.
And no, they do not do price match. but it doesnt matter cause i can get my credit card company to do it instead.
While it starts its 5 hour initial charge. i think i better start doing some work. hehe.. but its going to be difficult to concentrate, though.

Aha, I just picked a TH55 up for £290 (store price £299.99 -- negotiated down a bit but "there isn't much margin in these ones", apparently) at Procom, a couple of doors up from MicroAnvika (the other store, a bit further up the road). I said that I'd send a few more people down to buy some (they were just unpacking them as I arrived)...

My 2p worth....
I also have an amazon.co.uk order, it says estimate dispatch March 13th, estimate delivery March 15th.
As at 3.07 on Saturday afternoon, 13th March 2004 Amazon says
"Not Yet Dispatched: 1 item - delivery estimate: Mar 15, 2004"
They are pushing it if you ask me. I reckon there estimates are not going to be very accurate.....
Oh the pain, the pain, i can't wait........

I've also spoken to Micro Anvika and they have them in stock online and in their stores, but Amazon are selling for £30 less and will price match if anyone can find it cheaper. That leaves a little margin to buy a craddle and maybe even some earphones.

Please let us know if this e-mail answered your question:
As with U75 - if I have waited this long and there is no Bluetooth, it is going straight back (though I might just have a look inside at the serial number so that I can register for Docs to Go - am still peeved at the fact they are not giving us that in Europe despite the high prices in comparison to US of A [and even more annoyed about memory stick prices over here])

Well, I'm currently enjoying my £290 TH55 from Procomm on Tot Crt Rd, who, incidentally, replaced my model with a stuck pixel yesterday no questions asked, and let me charge the replacement for several minutes so that I could check its screen before leaving with it... I cancelled my original Amazon order and I can't say I begrudge the £20 extra -- I doubt Amazon will be so forgiving over pixel problems.

All we need to do now is find someone who is selling it cheaper then £269.99 and get Amazon to price match.
