To my surprise, the SJ-30 did not have a TV remote, specially when the MP3 model have really nice looking one,.
One wonders that Sony will provide the same program with the $250 sj-30. I know I can buy a $10 remote, but I really like my sj30 and all the stuff that came with it.
Any thoughts? thanks.

I've read that the IR is really weak on the SJ30 and that the IR port would have to be at least within 4 feet of the receiving port to work.

I could get about a 5 foot range on my old SJ30. Certainly not enough to use as a remote control.

I've only been able to manage somewhere below only 6 inches with OmniRemote.

I can't understand how it worked at all considering the SJ30 doesn't have an enhanced IR port...

I'm getting about 2 or 3 meters with my SJ20 and OmniRemote.. However, I used to be able to get 1 meter or less with OmniRemote, but then I redid the frequency testing in a completely dark room. I assume that it got a better reading that time. Just because they don't have an enhanced IR port, doesn't mean they won't work... they just don't work well.

I'm still confused, it just feels like you're saying that a TV without a satellite dish can recieve DirecTV, just not well?

Well, I just tested it. It recognized the signal, trained the button, but it was unable to change channels or anything else from any distance, even less than 1" away.

What I meant is that the Remote works with the SJ20/30, just that the range is not very useful. (Depending on how far you sit from your TV)

I'm no expert, but it may also be the device that's recieving. I know that different devices that I've trained OmniRemote for appear to have shorter ranges. Also, make sure that you do the frequency auto detect with as little light in the room as possible.

Those are just my experiences. May be wrong.

Works my NR70, not with my SJ30... under any conditions.
