When using navigation s/w such as Mapopolis or Mapsonic, I usually only need it for the last part of the journey. What I'd like to be able to to is just switch the UX50 on at that part of the journey where I want guidance to start. At the moment this requires me to stop the car, switch on the UX50, establish the connection with the GPS, set the route start point, etc, etc....

Have any users of Mapopolis or Mapsonic found a way of "resuming" a BT/GPS connection, so that you can set the route info and establish the GPS connection before you leave home, switch the UX50 off, then switch it on again when you get to a certain point in the journey, and have it "resume" the GPS/BT connection without you having to stop the vehicle and fiddle with it for a couple of minutes to set everything up?

This seems like such an obvious requirement, given the battery drain on longer journeys, and also the limitation on the size of maps that something like Mapopolis can load into memory.

With Mapsonic you can setup the route before you start, activate the GPS, cancel the search for bluetooth devices and switch the UX off. When you have reached the point you need the navigation assistance you switch on the UX, he will again start to search for the GPS, usually he finds only one device so you have just to press OK and Mapsonic will start to guide you.

Another possibility is to create a map with different levels of informations. Usually I create high level areas of start and destination and a low level area from the way between and save this as map. Paris + Mulhouse in high level and the way between in low level creates a map of around 40Meg which could easy be stored on the MS.

Hi ITM, looked on the name after I replied. How were your holidays? Mapsonic worked fine on the island?

Hi,

Thanks for the tip - I'll try that out next time.

I had a great holiday, thanks. The villa was superb - if you ever go back there I can recommend it (just outside Playa Blanca). We caught the carnival as well - it was alot of fun.

I tended not the use Mapsonic in navigation mode, as it lost the GPS connection so often, but it was useful to switch it on to find out where I was - particularly after getting lost trying to get out of Arrecife! Sometimes the road signs were a little scarce!

As you said, the map didn't feature alot of the roads, but the basic GPS features were useful anyway.
