Hey all! I'm new to the forums. Been lurking for a week or so, and finally came up with a question that I'm hoping someone can answer.

I was giving HandStory Basic a trial run, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to install eBooks from their site. I've got a couple of .hsb files, but how do I get them onto the Clie??? Drag-n-drop to the converter doesn't work, Basic can't read from the memory stick and I can't copy a .hsb file from the stick into internal memory.

Their website says Basic can read eBooks, but they don't seem to tell you how to DO it!

Help!!?!?!??

If you got the eBooks from their site, they should have installed to the installer and synced to your RAM. When you click on the + graphic at each eBook, it downloads and a HandStory Converter window pops up showing your sync name, a chance to set the category, and an option for syncing to card (which is grayed out in Basic). Did this happen?

Not sure how you circumvented that process, but if so and they are on your memory stick already, you can use the MSGate program that comes on the Clies to move the files from MS to RAM. Let me know if you need help further with MSGate.

The other possiblity here is that you haven't update the list in HandStory. The program remembers what docs/clips/ebooks/images it last saw and displays that. If you subsequently install any new ones, you have to update the list. To do that, tap on the HandStory tab at the very top and choose "Update List." Now see if they're there. You can set the update to be automatic each time HS opens, but I find it easier to do it manually when I've added something.

And do let us know how this comes out....

It was easy to circumvent. :) I normally use Mozilla for web browsing, not IE, and the HandStory plug-in never fired when I downloaded the .hsb.

Clicking on the [+] button using IE made everything work the way you said it would.

So ... it's a pain in the butt to have to download from the web using IE every time I want to (re)install a HandStory eBook, but at least I know how it works now. It would be really nice to be able to load one from my hard drive, though. :(

Thanks for the help!!

You can do that as well...but it's not an automatic thing.

When HS installs to the MS, it puts the file in the installer directory, then moves it to the programs/handstory/ folder on the MS. You can periodically copy the programs/handstory/ folder contents to your harddisk somewhere using the supplied MSImport program.

You could also copy them out of the ...\Palm\LG\CardInst\Slot-MemoryStick folder on your hardrive before they're moved to the MS. Also a pain, but does work as well.
