I have seriously spent hours and days trying to figure out how to do this reading multiple posts on multiple sites and it's just not working!! plus, some of the stuff I just don't understand!!.
OK: Facts:
Phone: Sony Ericsson T616, just purchased 3/2/04.
Carrier: Cingular GSM nationwide US. GRPS pay per service.
PDA: Sony Clie T615C
OK. I've used the GRPS on my phone and I just think it's basically useless and I hate it. All I really want to do is be able to check my hotmail but nothing is working. BUT, I would much rather surf the internet on my PDA.
So, My Ideal: To be able to search the internet and send email, no matter how slow, using GSM (therefore my minutes) through infra red. Considering I won't be using it that often anyway.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO????? Please be very detailed and clear, or post links to where I can find such very detailed info. Most of the time I can't even find the menu's people on the posts are even referring to!
I've gotten my clie to connect with my phone over infra-red. But, the network is all messed up of course so nothing works in that department.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! this is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!

Alright I just did this on Friday for the first time - let me tell you, its much easier than it seems.

Things you need:
1. Phone with built in modem/infrared.
2. PDA w/ infrared.
3. Dial up service provider (get a free one). I got mine from www.freedialup.org and I am using a national number since it does not matter what type of number I dial because it uses regular minutes.

Note: The maximum speed you will be able to download at 9 kb/s

PALM:

Part 1:
1. Go to Preferences.
2. Network
3. Beside Service, type in New Service Name
4. Enter username/password you got from free dialup service.
5. Enter phone number - if national don't forget to add 1
6. Go to Connection, then Edit Connections.
7. Create a new connection, call it Infrared.
8. Connect to: Modem; Via: Infrared; Dialing: TouchTone; Volume: (NO IDEA WHAT THIS DOES!).
9. Click on Details. For speed use highest availible; Flow Control: Automatic. Init Sting: leave blank; if you do see errors while connecting or whatever enter "NTZ" as the Init String.

Part 2:
1. Get a web browser for your palm.
2. I use iPanel (www.palmgear.com) < get it from there.
3. Add and hotsync.

Phone:
1. Make sure that infrared is activated.
2. Open up brower.
3. Click Web Search and it will try to connect.
4. It should work now if you have the Palm and Infrared aligned.

DONE!

What should I try now?

ok, so I found out with cingular you have to get them to turn on the data for GSM, called CSD. Which I did no problem. But, I can't get any webpages, but at least it connects now!
