I tried out a TH55 today to see if I would like it...

I tried to hold the TH in my right hand and I kept covering the camera lens with my fingers!! Are there any left-handed TH users out there? If so, how do you get around this problem? I tried for five minutes and still could not find a comfortable way to hold it and take a picture.

I'm lefty and no problem with the lense. It is located in the center so it does not make any different whether you're lefty or righty.

In fact, probably it is better to hold it with your right hand and take picture single handedly. To do that, I use the right pinky to support the bottom of TH55, right index finger tip covering the MS door, and the right thumb pressing the blue capture button.

No problem with the camera lens; only problem I have is with the 'back' button.

Agreed....the back button is kind of a awkward stretch with my right index finger. Any further I think it would hurt.

Dang back button is certainly designed for righty.

Agreed about the non-issue of the camera lens. It's in the center.

Back button? Needs to be somewhere, and, while it favors rightys (there are more of them than of us!), it's not unreasonable for a lefty. It's probably not a bad compromise.

If Sony flips the location of back button with the lens on the next generation TH, I'll definitely upgrade my TH55 with that next generation TH. That back button is really useful for me. I use it for ZL tab scan (press twice) and for turning off (long press). Often my index finger runs around in the back in search of the back button and find the lens cover a lot easier than the back button.

Since I broke my left wrist, I have been doing a lot of holding the TH in my right hand. Works fine, although I do agree with the back button opinion. It would work better in the left hand. I concerned about the fact that in 5 weeks, I will be so used to using it 'left handed' that I will have trouble going back!

I've been playing with the button pressing with my right hand and left hand. My conclusion is these buttons are very suitable for lefty whom use right hand to do one-handed operation. For example, while holding it with my right hand, I can use my right index finger to press the Back, Scroll, Left, and Right buttons. The right middle finger can be used for pressing the capture button. The right pinky finger can be used for sliding the hold on/off button. Try that with your left hand. ;)

To make the buttons to be more functional with one handed operation, I program:
1. Back button press hold for Power off via ZLauncher
2. Capture button press for launching DAs & Apps via ZLQuickLaunch
3. Scroll button press hold for launching DAs & Apps via McPhling

I also program the hard button #1 (DateBook) press hold to launch ClockPop5 and hard button #4 (Data Assistant) press hold to launch McPhling back.

I wish there is OS5 version of EasyLaunch hack where I can program the hard button #2, #3 press hold and VG button stylus swipes for launching more Apps and DAs.

I am left handed, and I have no problems with the layout.

I'm left-handed. Stylus is awkward to extract, back button not used. But this is typical for any electronic device. They're all made for right-handed people. You either learn to be ambidextrous or just accept it.

The Palm m505 had this weird design that I didn't understand - the flip cover and stylus slid into similarly shaped slots, but not the same size. Here was an opportunity to be able to put the stylus or flip cover hinge on either side it they just made the side slots the same size.

Another lefty here. When I try to pull my index finger back to reach the Back button, I'm always afraid I'm going to drop the unit. The stylus postion does not bug me, though, since I got used to that... 4 pda's ago.

I use my TH55 a lot for just reading ebooks, and I hold it with my left hand when I do that.

I don't complain about it being a right-handed world. At least lefties aren't beat as children and forced to be right handed anymore, or burned at the stake or anything.

I just got a NX80V and my wife a TH55. I'm a lefty and, though the TH55 is pretty nifty for either the right or left-handed, I still prefer the placement of the NX80's jog dial more than that of the TH55. As I hold the NX in my right hand, the jog dial is comfortably under my index finger. My right-handed wife, on the other hand (no pun intended :) ), was uncomfortable using this arrangement on her older Clie and just loves the new back-mounted jog dial on the TH55.

I find the camera cover switch on the TH annoying because, on my NX, I use my middle finger on my right hand to flick the power slider. For some reason, I instinctively hit the camera cover switch on the TH--probably because I'm used to triggering the first switch my finger finds on the NX--which is the power switch.

highvista, try THe Go Go, and set it to use the camera capture button as the on/off switch. For me it's perfect, it lies right under my middle finger, and is easier than a slider. Open the lens cover, and it becomes the capture button, close the lens, and it's the on/off button again. It's quite elegant, really.

Another advantage of THe Go Go is that you can map the capture button to be both a power button (long press) and a back button (short press). Very cool for us lefties- means we don't have to do acrobatics with our index finger! It stays a capture button when you open the lens cover. It is an elegant application- I've had no problems with it. And I love the jog dial where it is- so much easier to use.

ZL Quick Launch (QL) popup window with hard CAPTURE button press disables the camera capture but you have the on-screen blue CAPTURE button for the same function. Therefore, I don't see the need of redundancy. In fact for handed operation, the on-screen blue CAPTURE button is better than the hard CAPTURE button to avoid your right palm from blocking the camera.

Another benefit of using the hard CAPTURE button for QL is that I can do one handed operation to launch DA over the System Lockout when I'm on the go. Some of the DAs such as Volume DA, StopWatch, CalCal, ToDoDA, and HRCaptDA can be operated without the need to enter your password on the System Lockout. For example when I want to run a stopwatch quickly from power off state, all I need to do is to:
1. Press the capture button to turn on the Clie and popup the QL with middle finger.
2. Use the JogDial to scroll to the QL popup window to StopWatch with index finger.
3. Press the JogDial to launch the StopWatch over the System Lockout.
4. Press the RIGHT button to start the timer.
5. Press the RIGHT button again to stop the timer.
6. Press the left BUTTON to reset the timer.

I am a lefty and I love the placement of the jogdial, for me it is more intuitive that way. The back button is not all that great, but not really a worry for me. I hate the stylus placement though, I should be used to the stylus placement by now, but the NZ90 broke me of that habit (it is convenient if it is in tablet mode).

No problem with stylus location as I hardly use the stylus to begin with. My left pinky nail works just fine as stylus tip. However, I often am looking for a pen, so I replaced the OEM stylus with Pivot 3-in-1 stylus from Brando. Now the problem solved. ;).
