I use the camera ALOT and I was wondering if there was any way to 'upgrade' the software or if there was any way to increase the resolution when shooting video. The UX's can shoot at a maximum of 640 x 480 and it has the same camera as the NX70. I am hoping that this is a software limitation and not a hardware one, but in truth, I'm not sure, so I thought I would ask to see if anyone has managed to do this!

Do a search and you will find that recently the camera API's have been released. Search for Vivid. Correction-The camera resolution is 640x480 max. The movie recorder resolution is 112x160 like all other Clie Cameras with the functionality.

just to answer the question: YES! But I don't think it's possible unless some engineer can do a transplant and rewire some stuff.

vivid is currently developing the new program..
hopefully it will be much better than 320x240 video capture...

I would LOVE it if Vivid releases a version that would not only work on the NX80, but bump up the resolution as well. I don't want much, but a higher resolution would GREATLY increase the device's use!
Thank you so much for your replies, it seems as though I posted this at the right time. YEAH!!!!

The number of pixels, and therefore the ultimate possible resolution- if fixed. The issue is with video. If you can get stills at 640x480 or 1280x960, why can't you get more than 160x112 for the video? If the video encoding is done in software it would be changable (possible with the release of the camera API) but might be significantly slower (although I have an AIPTEK unit that takes nice 320x240 videos and I'm sure its processor is slower- or uses a native DSP chip rather than a more general-purpose chip like in a full-function PDA). The other option is that the video encoding is done in hardware. That would be severely limiting. I suppose even in that case a pure software solution could be grafted on, but again, it might be slow.

Yeah 640x480, that's almost as good as my DV-camcorder. And 1280x960 well I can forget my DV-camcorder - wounderful:p
So, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaZe upgrade my Clie to a DV-camcorder device:D

I figure at least 320x240 should be easy, anything more will be icing on the cake.
Although even at 640 x 480 the quality will be far inferior to a decent digital camcorder. But I'll still be very happy!
